attn: Engine experts: smoking problem
what up ht...
i have a 94 ls with a b20vtec
the engine has been in the car for 6mo prior to that the motor was assembled by myself.
engine specs:
b20b block
darton sleeves
bored .5mm over
je 9:1 pistons
je proseal rings
eagle rods
erl main girdle
arp main&head studs
84.5mm cometic head gasget std.
oil catch can w/ 2 fittings on back of block.
head:
p72 full ferrera valvetrain.
new valve stem seals.
my problem is, progressively for the last 4 months the engine has been smoking more and more upon acceleration and cold starts.
also i have oil mixing with my coolant witch tells me the head gasket is bad.
the motor has some blow-by but i believe thats attributed to the fact there is no windage tray on my engine because one would not fit due to the erl main girdle installed
today i performed a compression test and here are the results
cly
1: 200psi
2:200psi
3:150psi
4:200psi.
Since cly#3 is at 150 psi i assume that the headgasget must be the problem.
question#1, could a bad headgasket cause compression loss in cyl#3 and cause smoking?
question #2 could my smoking also be caused by a bad piston ring. or a combination of the 2?
i doubt the rings are bad,the piston to wall clearence was perfect, aswell as the ring endgap and ringland to ring gap. the motor hasnt seen boost or spray yet, its been my dd.
any helpful info-insight would be greatly appreciated. thx-matt

It could be the combination of both. Bad rings due to many spirited driving days or improper ring seating, blown head gasket due to a cheap part,or over heating causing the head to warp ever so slightly that will cause coolant to leak into the cylinders, which in turns smokes. BTW, what color is your smoke?
White = blown head gasket
Blue= either bad rings, valve seals and or blown head gasket
