Lowering VTEC engagement...
I have heard that with just I/H/E that this is not enough engine modification to lower the optimal VTEC engagement point. That upgraded cams are the only mod that can justify the lowering of this point. Is this true?
What mods would and woudln't cause the optimal VTEC engagement point to change?

wow, this is yet another lame question.
get yourself to a dyno after you start modding things to tune.
used to live in louisville KY on 311 cambridge station road btw

Lame question?
I'd like to know if a dyno trip is necessary before I have to pay for it. I also want to know if my information is factual or not... just trying to learn the truth is all.

VTEC engagement point is the point where your max power of lower cam loop meeting the minimum power of higher cam loop ie VTEC loop. Best experienced I have during road tuning is you lowered the point at around 5200rpm for stock camshaft and fiddle around +/- 100rpm to find where the smoothest point is. My car has best optimum vtec point at 5150 (using FC and it is adjustable to 50rpm)
stock vs air filter+ cat back exhaust dyno graph
IHE+camsproket+PowerFC in various tuning.
notice on the second graph after the vtec engagement point has been fiddled around and fuel was tuned, there is hardly any vtec dip on the power band.
