CR-V engine change 2000
I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to change the engine in a 2000 2wd CR-V. The factory manual says that you pull the tranny and engine together. Does anyone know if you can pull just the engine? Or, would it be just as easy to pull them both.
It looks like it might be pretty tight trying the separate the engine from the tranny in the car due to the clearance at the front of the engine.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I say pull them both together..just actually did it to my personal cr-v..I pulled it from the bottom since the clearance is so high..I was just replacing the longblock but easier to work outside of the car and put together
sure take it out the top...so you will need a cherry picker, then need to rotate it and slide it down to get the trans out from under the frame rail...while trying not to bust the crank pulley on the other side...and you have to remove all the motor mounts, a/c, p/s radiator/fans etc, out of the engine bay, to make room for it to come out the top. or just unbolt everything from the motor (while leaving them in place in the engine bay) and drop it out the bottom.
its DESIGNED to come out from teh bottom. Honda of America trains all of their techs to take it out from the bottom....so why would you go against the way honda intended and pull it out the top?
either way is "do-able" but the RIGHT way, and easier way...is out the bottom.

Because most people don't have a hoist or any other means of getting the vehicle up high enough in a safe manner to clear the engine.
i dont have a hoist, or a cherry picker...and have pulled out more motors than i care to remember. your average everyday 3k lb floor jack gets teh car plenty high enough to slide a motor out from under the frame, through the wheel well. i personally have not done a crv...but ive done civics, accords, crx's, preludes, all from the bottom using the same floor jack, and jack stands. an occasional 2x4 might be needed, and thats about it.
to each their own i guess....just saying going from teh bottom is technically the "correct" way of doing it. and IMO the easiest.

I appreciate everyone's advise, I ended up pulling it out the top without the automatic tranny. All I had to do was pull off the harmonic balancer to get the clearance I needed. Much easier than I thought it would be.
