Looks like the helms insists you remove the trans to remove the engine, is this necessary? I am guessing no since you can change a clutch without removing the engine. Just curious, still plenty of time til I actually do it. Thanks

Hmmm, in the civic helms manual it doesn't say anything about removing the tranny....

im assuming you have a 2000 gsr. you do not have to pull out your tranny to yank your engine.... at least i dont think so. everyone i know with integras yank them in and put them in with the tranny bolted onto the block. a good tool to have is a leveler for your engine hoist, it lets you lower one side/raise one side. it comes in handy.

if you are removing the engine it is much faster to remove the engine and trans together. also the whole assembly comes out through the bottom of the car, not out of the top.

on the leveler. We did it with out one, and what ended up happening was I had to raise one side up myself and that's a major pita.

Its much much easier to remove the engine and trans together. If you do leave it in you will need a jack to support the trans. you would also have to remove the engine from the top as the drive shafts would be in the way. if you leave the trans attached you can remove the engine from the top or bottom. I prefer removing/installing it from above but a leveler is vital to do it easily without seriously scratching the paint on the engine mounts.

The other thing to consider, even if you do get the engine out while leaving in the trans, getting it back in while getting the input shaft to line up with the clutch would be nearly impossible. Spare yourself the pain.

my helms doesn't say that. that sounds silly.

but i have no hoist or anything, so i just took mine apart a piece at a time. at the time, the head was already off....intake mani, axles, tranny.....now i have the get the block out.

You are going to hurt your back. Why not rent an engine hoist? Hell I would let you borrow mine but you live too far away.

If you are lazy like I was, do like Jason(blown90hatch) told me to do... It works

Take the front wheels off and lower the car down onto the ground until the frame hits

Unbolt all the engine mounts

Jack the car all the way up and pull the motor out the bottom.

This way you don't even need an engine hoist!

But yes, definately leave the tranny on the motor....

The helms manual recommends attaching the engine hoist TO the tranny when you pull it so I am pretty sure they don't expect the transmission and engine to be separated.
