How to socket/chip a jdm p30 (tried searching)
I got a jdm b20 vtec that I just ordered a socketing kit and baseline chip. The problem I am having is that I am having trouble finding good info on how to chip/socket a jdm p30.
I can find info on a p28 but not the p30 and I know there are a few things that are different.
Please help me out or point me in the right direction. I tried searching all over and can't seem to find what I need.
Thanks in advance.

You will need surface mount components, which differ from the typical P28/P72 chip kit.
Soldering is actually easier (I think). Searhc YouTube on how to solder on surface mount boards.

Great place for PGM-FI information. Always the first place I go if I need ECU or electronics information.

Im still lost I have read all the info on that site before I started this post and it does not explain much.
this is what I bought that said it will work with a p30
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...mZ170512822420
will this not work?
Im looking at these directions here:
http://web.archive.org/web/200512240...ChippingJDMP30
What I understand is bridge the J1 jumper with a wire or something.
Then do I use the 2 small yellow parts for c49 and c50?
what do I use for C91 and C92?
Does the jdm p30 already have a 28 pin socket already installed? Thats why they dont tell you to install them in these directions?
Then surface mount solder 74hc373 SMD chip....
Please and thank you for all the help provided.

That kit you bought is a through hole, USDM ECU chipping kit.
You need a kit for a surface mount, JDM ECU.
If you look at the pictures in those directions you can see that they added the 28 pin socket to the ECU. It is added the same way that you would add it to a USDM ECU.

then why F did do they say it will work with a p30.... I will try and return it then.
bahhhhhh.... this sucks, I would just send it to a chiping company but they are all in the states and said it will take 3 weeks to get my ecu back..

get off of ebay this guys good you want the surface mount option

this guy is also good
http://www.phearable.net/shoppingcar...chip-p-73.html
the second one is more expensive because it includes a base map, the first one is just a kit with a blank chip

Where are you located that it would take 3 weeks from the US?
Digikey is pretty cheap as well

all of the required Digikey part numbers are on that PGM-FI.org JDM P30 chipping page
I live right on the u.s canada border, in canada, anything I get from ebay takes 3 weeks or more.
I hate.
I think I might just try to buy a pre socketed p28

Probably your best bet, surface mount hardware isn't easy to solder for some one that doesn't do it all the time.
I got my eye on this

A P06 converted to run vtec like a 28 with my custom chip.... Does anyone have any experence with these units, how well do they run a b20 vtec?
I know a normal chiped p28 or p30 would be better but will this work also?
thanks in advance.
I might make another thred for this so if you see it agian, im sorry.

They would run it as well as a P30, as long as they are chipped and tuned properly. I have converted many P06 ECUs and have yet to have any problems with them running VTEC engines. [knocks on wood]
anyone know if the capacitors on c49, c50, c91, c92 are needed? i just finished chipping a p30 and everything went perfect as well as all continuity checked for all the solder points but i did not solder in any of the "C" components mentioned above and i seem to be getting a cell.....
I never actually asked the question or tested if they are required. I always put them in an have never had any issues. I would imagine that if you didn't put any of them in it could cause a CEL. What is the CODE that comes up?
