I am working on a friends 96 civic ex and they are having a problem. First off, it is an automatic. When I drive it on the freeway and it switches gears, it feels like the car kind of waivers, or like rocks back and forth. I dont know how to explain it. It still shifts to the next gear fine but it seems like it bogs or waivers when switching. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Any CEL codes? Have you tried 2X draining the ATF and refilling with Honda or Honda-recommended ATF?

 

No CEL codes. Havent tried redoing the ATF cause she said she just had it done. That would be my next guess though. Anything else?

 

I'm not sure what it could be but every automatic trans honda I've ever driven or rode in has shifted goofy? Mine shifted really hard and I was told by the previous owner that it was just flushed and that it had done it since he had got it at 80k and it was still working good til 218k when I took it out to swap for a 5speed

 

Does the CEL work? Or did you check for codes using a code reader?

 

My auto trans still works great with 205k on it, but at slower speeds like when you come to a light an almost stop but it turns green so when you put your foot back on the gas it feels like it's between gears then slams into first I thought this was odd cause every auto I've owned/driven never did this

Have you checked any of the motor/trans mounts? Maybe that's your problem an if not you can rule it out

 

I dont think it is a physical thing like a bad mount if that makes sense. I feel like its something internal, either tranny or fuel or spark. Any more thoughts?
