Default D16 Build

I have a 94 sol with a D16 i would like to get some more power out of it. I am not too sure about internal engine components. To do a build I would need cams, valves, and springs. What else would I need any input from you guys would be great.

Cams, valves, and springs is all just in the head. If your really wanting to get some power out of the D16 you got to boost her.

Which you would need to do some piston/crank work in order to get more of a reliable motor.
What kind of power are you looking for? Whats your budget?

I'm in the same boat as you. My D16Z6 is at 183xxx miles and I don't know if it would be better and cheaper to rebuild it better or to go for a B series swap..

Dont procrastinate doing piston\block\crank work later. Do it now and get it over with. Bore the block .020 over, throw some dish tops w\ moly rings in there, micropolish (at minimum) your crank, acl bearings,a good set of rods, and arp rod bolts. Doing that will at least get you so that you can make some decent power without sacrficing reliability to bad. And NO dont ever use a used turbo on a fresh motor! If ur gonna do it, take your time, do it right, and use all NEW ****

Greddy makes a real nice setup, but its been a while since I've looked into turbo setups. Im more of a auto-x\circuit\road race all motor type of guy myself. Theres alot of people on here that have up to date knowledge of turbo setups though. Hit em up

those damn greddy turbo kits are so expensive. I pieced together a very good turbo kit for $2000. Only thing I had that was used was my manifold. Only good thing about those is the emanage has a good tune when you buy it. And if you have an eg dont rebuild a d just do a b swap cause it will prolly cost about the same and be more fun.

My self I would stay with the Dseries engine over doing a Bseries swap... For the money you spend swapping in the b series you could have built your dseries and turbo'd it and our performed the b series swap... Stock internals on a D series are usually good for 200 to 250 whp with a good tune... Anything over that and you are on borrowed time with the stock internals... JFK (look up on youtube) just put down about 700whp with his d series (d16Z6 with 75.5mm Vitara pistons and eagle rods) and ran a 9.86 at 151.2 mph in the qtr mile... They are very capable little engines!

Start by reading up in the forced induction thread. Read the FAQ and some setups, there is a lot of information to be had in that thread.

don't get a greddy kit... seriously...

like adamvanxxx said... go to the FI forum, and start reading...

I started in the same spot as you, and am building a turbo d... read, figure out your goals, and then build it..

No. Don't let the "The only way to make a D quick is BOOST" people fill your head. They are wrong. -Later, BR
