Default All motor or turbo? need some help

hey whats up guys, i was thinking to upgrade my CRX but i dont know what would work better for me, i have a 94 gsr stock engine, i would lie to boost it with the stock internal at 8 psi, but i can also like to go with the high compression pistons ported and polished heads, aftermaket cams, and a 75 shot of nitrous. i can afford these setups but i want to know what is more reliable and faster.

i would like to have yourguys advice, thanks!

I hate you.

Let me explain in cliff note terms easily understood by everyone.

- You are asking about boosting at "OMG WTF 8PSI!" I can make 8 psi come out of a straw, and 8 psi from overpressure in a house will destroy it. Think about that, then restate the question.

- Reliability is all the same, depends on the builder, depends on how you treat it, depends on how you maintain it, depends on how the tide cycle in the ocean is going that particular day.

- You never mentioned in any way shape and or form how you plan on complementing this extra power in the chassis, i.e. suspension, brakes, fuel support, coffee maker in glove box, tuning.

8 psi in a stock gsr is a manageable but short term task, as stated prior the quality of the turbo appplication and accomidating hardware, as well as your driving mannerisms and can vastly effect the life and the shortness of this short term application, I say short term.because the gsr is a high compression ratio set up, boosting one only puts more stress on the block.

do it right, bigger injectors, fuel pump, ecu, hell a time and it could last. I put 3 years in on my gsr turbo, stock intetnals @ 10psi because I didn't skimpy, saved up enoufh to build the bottom end and now im at 22psis cuz I built it right the second time as well.

TURBO OR NOZ???

What i would do:

turbo route---get mahely pistons, sik head gasket, your turbo pref, and tuning. Had sum manely pistons on my ls turbo 91 DA, its was sik,, never failed.. I was running 9.1 comp on bout 12 psi of boost...

Nos route,,,I still get mahely pistons, except like 10:1 or 10.7 pistons.. And you said, about 75 shot of noz, **** my homie had eg with b20, mahely pistons, **** he shot 150 at the track with no problem,,,he had stg 2 cams and head p&p, but those pistons never let me down or him at the irwindale..

Its mainly your choice,,, TURBO OR NOZ setup...Brake boosting off the line to build pSI or Hit the switch 4 sum juice.. High reving street runs or Freeway runs to 160. LOL,,,

tuning is needed for both, so decide on your style, and I could shoot sum idea plans for your choice...
I rather hit the juice,, Honda's are sik N/a already,,throw sum juice with a motor that can handle, and you got yourself more than a street car!!!!

]hope dat helps ---H RUNNERS

Bumps are pretty much to refresh the page so people look at them, at least that's my opinion.

As for the original question in matter. It all depends on you bro, it depends on what you really want.

Turbo is great, tons of power but limited to your build. You also have to wait for that power to kick in. As far as boosting it stock, sure no problem especially at 8-10psi. My best friend owns a 1997 GS-R s completely stock tuned by jeff evans 4 years ago and its had NO problems. As far as that comment on high compression, 10:1 is no longer considered high compression in my opinion. As long as everything is done right, that kind of compression is better to turbo at people were just afraid of it in the past plus we didn't have knowledge for high comp. forced induction but take a look at S2K's, 11:1 and people turbo them all day long. Also, I'm a BMW Service Technician and our N54 (I6 Twin Turbo) & N55 (I6 Single Turbo) engines are boosted at 10:6:1 and we run them from the factory at 1 bar which is roughly 14.3psi.

As far as fully built and NOS goes? I would build the block either way just so whenever I feel like going to a big turbo or adding a bigger shot of nitrous I wouldn't have limitations coming from my bottom end. But Nitrous will have instant power and a better torque curve plus 75HP from nitrous would yield a better torque curve than 75HP from a turbo.
Just my opinion. Good luck and you're a bastard for having funds like this. =]

go boost im a boost freak, imo boost is best and ur gonna get the most out of the motor that way. its easy make 100+ hp on a turbo setup with a good tune, and a good tuner is starting to get easy to find in the honda world

"What would be best?" is a question we really cannot answer because we are not you. You will have to find two cars with each of the setups you are asking about and test drive them both. That is the absolute best way for you to answer your own question. Everyone has different opinions and that is all that they are opinions. My opinion is for you to spend that money on top of the line suspension components and replace everything: springs, struts, bushings, stainless brake lines, performance tires, sway bars, etc. Your CRX will feel like a completely different car. It will even feel faster with your current engine. Hope this helps.
