Default Car Insurance for restored cars?

Hey, Im not sure if I have this in the right section or not, if I don't mods feel free to move it.

My question is: What car insurance companies are some of you guys using, after dropping 10-30K into your car? I already talked to Hagerty and they stated that they won't insure cars with nitrous. I know some of you have to be using some form of an "agreeable terms" insurance policies. Any help would be great. Thank you,

I don't think you should tell them you have nitrous? Lol. Like why would they insure something they know is going to be racing etc.? Its like getting pulled over and just telling the cop you were racing and telling him to take you to jail.

yeah lol its not like they inspect your car...If you ever get in an accident take out the nitrous before the claims people come out and assess your car though. Because they will cancel your claim if they find parts that go against the contract.

Yeah, I know. I learned my lesson quick from that one haha. I was up front and honest with them when I talked to Hagerty. After that I knew where I messed up. I have zero problems with taking the kit off the car if needed though. They also fed me a line that my DD vehicle has to at least be a 2005 to be able to insure my non-DD?? The nitrous I understand, but that seemed a little random.

First of all, no matter what insurance company you use, you will need to get an appraisal, preferably by someone that the insurance company recommends to you.

I use State Farm. IIRC, if you get insurance for an agreed upon value, you can only drive it 7500 miles per year. If you insure it for an agreed upon value of 20K and you have to make a claim, they'll pay it (as long as the appraisal is for 20K, of course). If you get regular full-coverage insurance, you can drive it as much as you want, but if you have to make a claim, you will have to deal with the insurance adjuster low-balling you. However, with the appraisal in hand, you'll have a fighting chance at getting what your car is worth if you ever have to make a claim.

I use state farm. They cover my 57 Chevy. You can either get an appraisal and they will do it for you, at least they did for me.

You can get what's called "stated-value" insurance, which is pretty much what has alreay been discussed by FM.

Yeah, my current insurance company only does "stated value", but after reading the small print on their web site. Its sounds more like you're paying a premium for a $20/30/40K "stated value", but when it comes to making a claim or in a case of total lost, you're screwed on getting that value back. Like FM said getting an appraisal makes it harder for them to lowball you out of that price value as easy. I asked them who would they recommend locally for an appraisal and the lady told me to talk to a local Corvette or Thunderbird car club, and someone should be able to answer my question. Anyone know of a national appraisal service that networks with companies in each state? I did some searching and didn't really come up with too much.

Thanks everyone for the great info so far!
