What goes into a catch can?
I'm wanting to make one similar to the moroso style breather cans with some spare exhaust tubing I have lying around.. This is kinda what I had in mind: 2 -10 inlets on the side, from the VC, 7" of 3", a stainless half sphere on the bottom with a -12 drainback to the back of the block using one of the adapters from go-autoworks. My question though is what exactly is IN the catchcan? I've heard someone say fill it with steel wool, I've heard baffles, but no one seems SURE, so can someone help me? Also, does anyone see a problem with doing it this way? It's a vitara D with an HX35 and I don't expect more than 400.. thanks!
Baffles and steel wool will keep the oil from blowing out the filters you use on a catch can. If your draining back to the block, I would just use baffles. I didn't see breather filters on your list. Depending on how your set up is, you may want to add one. (or 2) I am making one myself. Using 5" aluminum pipe, two -10 fittings and stainless line and two breather filters. Mine won't be plumbed back into the block though.
You most likely will need them. There are a handful of turbocharged cars that have a pcv set up that is self contained, like the VW for example, that would not need the filters. It's difficult for me to explain this set up, but for yours you should use breather filters. This will help keep the crank case pressure down which is a good thing. Maybe later today I can sit down and do a rough draft of this set up on my computer and post it up.
Here it is. It's just a basic one, they can be made in so many configurations and shapes. I'm thinking up some ideas of my own for my evo. Sorry the drawing isn't the best. My software is mostly used for large structural members. I know the pic is small. It was either this size, or really freakin huge. If you want, PM me your email address and I can email it to you.

Thts great man thanks. My only question now, is could I use a -12 an fitting in the bottom to go back to the back of the block if the bottom is either spherical or cone shaped?
Do not use steel wool particularly if you plan to have a drain back feature, it will quickly oxidize and disintegrate from moisture and the left over’s will end up in your engine oil, use baffels and ball chain, Aluminum shot or something inert with plenty of surface area.

Exactamundo. -12 stainless line seems kinda overkill. -10 would work fine.
there are a few official pages in fi and drag. steel wool is a bad idea as stated above because of the hot oil pulling out moisture causing the wool to rust.
make a big enough can, drain it back, no issues. its that simple.

Only reason I was using the -12 is because that's the only size that the blocking fitting comes in...
Edit, just remembered they make them with a 12-10 adapter..
