Oil Pump Failure
Hey h-t
As the title says, what can cause oil pump failure???!!
I had this problem twice into the same motor, it was the same way the two oil pumps fail, the gear was broken into pieces....???
Both didn’t last much, the first one broke on the dyno(OEM b18c), and the second oil pump holded around 12 passes on the drag strip(OEM B16).
The engine is turbo b16 with CP pistons Manley Rods, balanced rotating assembly, 9K rev..
If you guys can think of anything that can cause this please share it...
Thanks

Something is out of wack in your bottom end, a bad line bore like mentioned above could definately be one cause, my friend has your same issue and it was due to a shop doing a bad line bore.
when you have a block line bored if done wrong the crank is moved in the block and the oil pump is no loger centered on the end of the crank causing extra pressure to be put on the gears. hence the broken gears!
the pulley is unorthodox but really doubt it?
if it is infact an unorthodox, you may have 2 issues. the balancer, and the line hone.
dont get us wrong. line honing does not cause the issue. doing it wrong does.

u have to check the clearances of the oil pump gear to the crank..and if it too tight on one side u need to grind down the dowels so it moves the oil pump up until its within spec...
I also had this issue twice, after the first I installed a fluidmpr and it happened the second time and then I changed from a cheap *** clutch to an act and never had problem again.
i didnt realise that was a known problem either, until it happened
that was when I looked on here and the first thing someone said was "aftermarket pulley??"
Thanks guys for all the help...
I will go with the b16 OEM damper...
I already disassembled the engine, thankfully everything looks fine....
I will rebuild the block and will check the oil pump clearances...
