X2!!!! fred is the man! those were fun times when guys like him or nate romero could go rounds with the most simple setups, some ingenuity and some driving skill.

Thank guys like that for what you have today. I started about a year after that (2001), but I remember doing all of this with absolutely no aftermarket support. It was pretty much just everyone trying to figure it all out together.

Things have come a long way in 10 years.

Here is a couple of links of pics I took throughout the years of racing (early 00's)

You guys want some history of the World Cup Finals from the last 10 years?

The first ever World War III Finals was held back in 1996. Sorry, we didnt have results online from back 1996-1999. We had 420 racers in attendance and 310 car show entries and about 4,000 fans. We never thought it would take off, but it did and it has been growing every year since then. The event has history and has drawn the fastest cars on the import side and the domestic side to the east coast every year. When we first started the event we had imports and domestics competing against each other in 4cyl classes, 6 cyl power adder and non-power adder classes, etc. But we didn’t run cars of different cylinders against each other until 2002, which is when things really started to get crazy. Hope everyone enjoys!

* November 12, 2000, World War III Finals
This was the original name of the World War III Finals, before the name change to World Cup Finals, Only top 10 qualifiers posted in classes back then, sorry we didn’t list all the qualifiers and you could see how big it was even back then.
http://www.mirdrag.com/results/00res...x/11-12-00.htm

* November 11, 2001, World Cup Finals
Still only top 10 qualifiers posted in classes back then Wish we had full results.
http://www.mirdrag.com/results/01res...x/11-11-01.htm

* November 10, 2002, World Cup Finals
First year of merging 8-cylinder cars in the import classes and the switch to 16 car fields, Only top 20 qualifiers posted in classes back then though would love to have archived full qualifying lists Cause they were big even back then.
http://www.mirdrag.com/results/02res...x/11-10-02.htm

* November 9, 2003, World Cup Finals
Finally when we started posting all qualifiers in each class, but this is the year when the event really started to grow HUGE! Check out the sizes of these classes!
http://www.mirdrag.com/results/03res...dex/031109.htm

* November 7, 2004, World Cup Finals
Another huge turnout! Check out the sizes of these classes!
http://www.mirdrag.com/results/04res...411/041107.htm

* November 6, 2005, World Cup Finals
The year of madness! We ran out of food in the concessions stands, We had 750 racers on the property and we were not prepared for this huge growth spurt. We had so many cars in the classes that we had to delete cars in the heads up classes from 21 on down to keep the computer from having problems, we had like 155 cars in Street Renegade alone (which is now called True Street) I decided after this event we had to make some changes.
http://www.mirdrag.com/results/05res...511/051106.htm

* November 5, 2006, World Cup Finals
We set ET minimum limits in each class to help limit the amount of cars in each class. The event ran much smoother and the competition was closer. The spectator crowds grew even more and we were prepared!
http://www.mirdrag.com/v2/results/20...1/06-11-05.htm

* November 4, 2007, World Cup Finals
The event was awesome! 81 cars in True Street alone! All-Motor cars were still in the 11s back then.
http://importvsdomestic.com/wcf/results_07.htm

* November 9, 2008, World Cup Finals
The event went great! Big Crowds, fast ETs, and a huge car count once again!
http://importvsdomestic.com/wcf/results_08/index.htm

* November 7-8, 2009, World Cup Finals
First year for a 2-Day event, and it was a HUGE SUCCESS! Check out the results and bigger things to come for the upcoming 2010 season including 32-car fields in all classes. More media coverage, more sponsors, more purse, and much more to come, stay tuned.

- We were there, the Pro4 class had 62 or 63 cars in qualifiers, completely insane.

My car was #1 qual and Joel was driving (most of the runs .
And in 1st round we got to do some " Jason Huntin' " lol.
The car had wheelie bars on it, and the next year the rules wrote them out and that was the start of the Street FWD movement - which was pioneered by that same Jason dude.

Yeah, we ended up changing the name from the World War III Finals to the World Cup Finals due to 9/11. We just did a minor tweak to the name, but of course the "Import vs Domestic" part of the name has always been there.

Yes--from Kentucky. He started in an 8v all-motor Rabbit, later ran a 20v all-motor Corrado.
