Default differences between z6 crank and y8 crank

Are there any? I've been looking for a crank for my new build (d15b7, z6 head, vitatas and FJ rods) and I keep finding all of these y8 cranks and no z6 cranks. Can I run a y8 crank in a d15b7?

idk if you can put the 1.6 crank in a 1.5...deck heights are probably different.

anyway, the oiling systems between the two are different, y8 is more prone to eating bearings

Z6 has two oiling holes per bearing (at least on the rods) compared to one on the Y7/Y8.

No, you can't use 1.6L cranks in the 1.5L block - the mains aren't the same diameter.

I noticed that after a clunker I bought blew up a y7. They can be fixed at most shops, as crossdrilling cranks isnt unusual for some v8's. It won't hurt to chamfer & micropolish it either.

The main y7/y8 problem is the oil pump. I've seen a few people put a z6 pump/pan on a y8 and drive it like they stole it w/o issues (besides cops).

I guess I'll be looking for a d16 block w/ crank or a d15 crank then.

Wish I could get pics of the bearings in the d15 I pulled apart. You guys wouldn't blame me for wanting another crank lol

I can relate. That block I mentioned had 2 spun rods, a 3rd rod siezed/snapped, and 2 spun mains with a 3rd was nearly gone. i didn't have shavings, I had flattened dimes all over...

In many cases local people will think the d16 has zero potential, meaning zero worth. I got a full swap for $250 a while back, still have it too. The best part is any sohc d15/d16 head will bolt onto it, assuming you use the right parts.

The Y8 crank is inferior. If you can, get the Z6 or even an A6 crank. Its a much better choice due to the difference in the oil galleries as mentioned before. Y series block are well known for spinning rod bearings... and please don't start a debate about the oil pumps being the cause. This isn't the case.
