i've searched, cannot find the info on oil catch cans...
i understand they catch excess oil so it does not guck up the intercooler and intake manifold, my question
is are they a must have or not? like will i mess things up w/o one? btw instead of tell me to search can u just post

your understanding of the purpose is wrong. catchcans are used to allow preesure to escape from the crankcase. along with the pressure release, oil sneaks by into the catch can. depending on your boost and power levels, you will need one to prevent ring issues.
Yes you will most likely mess things up without one, The PCV system that is stock will close off the ability to vent positive crankcase pressure under boost. That will cause the build up of pressure in the crankcase and can cause MAJOR damage.
You want to eliminate the stock PCV system (or just vent it to atmosphere instead of looping it into the intake manifold. Although chances are you will need a catchcan and maybe some additional vent ports.

can someone give me the in and outs of how to do this, i wanna have the most reliable sources considering its a budhet build thanks
first off i have completely a set up of my own this past year i did it myself and i have around 450 into it but mine is the race set up fabbed tank in the battery location with 4 dash 12 lines out of the valve cover and 2 dash 12 lines out of the crank case but for the beginner i would suggest going to the honda dealership and order you some h22 water inlet fittings that screw into your block and then plug off your pvc sytem with a freeze plug not sure on the size right now and then just find yourself a catch can and plum it to it some company makes a oil cap with a an fitting in it just do some research and see what ppl have done

Finally a thread that explains this lol. I had no idea a catch can was necessary, I always thought it was more for looks with a small purpose.

Remove these from the back of the block. buy the fittings required to go in them spots. run lines from them to a catch can. and your set. some motors will have the stock black box on the back. remove the black box and buy a freeze plug to plug the hole.

From 97 and up the motors did not come with a stock black box setup. Correct me if i'm wrong tho.. as you see in the picture that did not have one on it. the hole is arlready closed off inside as you can see.
