Default type-s tranny install.

hey guys, i know this has been covered many times before and yes i searched and got alot of questions answered but i still have a couple more. My car's third gear is starting to grind just normal driving so i figured instead of fixing it just go ahead and swap to the 6 speed. I know i need the BC short shifter to allow the 6th gear, but what else would i have to change out or modify? And i saw that someone said the shifter cables are the same length, is this true? could i use the clutch i already have or no? thanks.

You wont have reverse lock out but other then that its a direct relplacment since you already know about getting a Buddy Club shifter. If you need help PM me, im in Maryland and have lots of RSX/EP3 and K series experience.

there was a recall for 3rd, 2nd and 3rd are notorius for having issues.....and going in reverse while your driving is easier than you think if you dont have lock out

02-04 and 05/06 have different vss
changes are you will need the 02-04 casing, all internals are interchangable

absolutely correct!!! the slot/grove(not sure if right term) for going into reverse gear is cut with slight angle, not straight up and down, so one could accidentally slip in and will engage. and if you let go of your clutch, ka-boom!!! I heard something like this happening and that's why I got the reverse lockout switch.

Is it possible to make a manual (button/toggle switch triggered) reverse lockout? Can anyone enlighten me as to how this feature works in the RSX trans?

I thought I read about one person saying they had a switch set up for this.

Thanks

yes you can and the switch could be any type/kind. I have toggle switch, but you could even wire it to hazard light button, cruise control button, etc. Not sure why anyone would do this, but technically you could. Basically, the switch gets wired to solenoid on the tranny(not sure how/which wire) and when the switch's ON, you can go into reverse; when OFF, you cannot go into reverse. I'm gonna ask for some type of diagram for the wiring when I go back to the shop next week or so for my visit and post it up somewhere. Just need getting used to, took me about two weeks.

Here's what I have:

My plan was to relocate the hazard switch to other side and install similar switch in place, but couldn't find a switch and found the toggle switch at Radio Shack and liked the look of it, sorta like a aircraft instrument panel look. FYI, it's not DIY, it was installed at the shop.

Cool. Thanks for the info, I'm looking forward to the diagram.

What I had in mind would involve an RSX fog light switch mounted in the usual spot on the left side of the steering wheel, which would trigger a relay for the solenoid (depending on how much amperage it was pulling).

I like how Getrag did it in my old POS Sunfire. They had a little spring-loaded ring just below the shift **** that you had to pull up to get the car in reverse.

^^ damn, that would be nice! that gives me idea, would suing s2000 shifter mechanism be compatible w/ ep3 shifter box? if so, you won't need any switch, just push down to go into reverse, and from what I understand, the mechanism won't allow you to push down while your moving... hm~~~ that would be sweet mod!!! I'm gonna look into that option.

I don't believe so, because the S2K is RWD and most RWD's have the shifter mounted right in the transmission (correct me if I'm wrong). Our cars have a shifter lever in the dash with two cable that run from it to the trans.
