Help! RPM Tach jumping all over the place!
Recently i just turbod my entierly stock 99 integra ls. I bought a rywire jumper harness to use a chipped p29 ecu. Everything is working correctly but when i give it gas the rpm needle goes crazy. But if i just cruise around it doesnt do it at all, its only when i mash the gas. It didnt do this before i installed the turbo and ecu. I just need to get this fixed because im going to see my tuner in a couple of days and i need this fixed.
Do you get a CEL?
Mine did this too and got CEL 17. I think it could possibly be your vehicle speed sensor cables. The connection may be dirty on the transmission itself. Jack the car up and check it. It solved my problem.

Check all of your grounds and connections, especially the tranny. Could also be a VSS issue.

my bad man couldnt help it. but umm had this problem a while back. how new is your distributor?? i replaced mine with one from an auto parts store and it was fine. try swappin distributors and see what happens.
My distributor took a dump on me shortly after my tach started jumping around all crazy as you described. When I pulled the dizzy cap off I could see a lot of very fine brass. I think there is a bushing that wears out over time. You could pop the cap off and check for metal inside. Good luck
Alright well im leaving today to get the car tuned by CFT in orlando and im bring a extra gauge cluster and some distributor components with me. I talked with the shop about this problem and they suggested they look at it so im hoping for the best and ill let you guys know how it went.
make sure the blue wire on the ICM is crimped down good.
I had the same exact problem ... took out the vss and it was fine and after not finding any other issues (no cels, no bad wiring) I decided to take a look at the ICM. The blue wire on mine was connected but not good enough I guess. I took the connector off and crimped it down good and now it's perfect.

The VSS is the Vehicle Speed Sensor and is used to drive the speedometer, not the tachometer. The tachometer is driven by the signal from the ICM (Ignition Control Module) located within the distributor. The signal is on the blue wire and usually when the ICM begins to go bad it can cause your tach to go crazy. If the ICM is ok the wiring needs to be checked from the distributor to your gauge cluster.
here's a good site with lots of info about it:

I was told that the vss could also be malfunctioning causing the tach to jump

Well got my car tuned today at cft. Made 220whp and 195ft lbs of torque on 8.5 psi of boost. Tach is still not fixed. My buddy from gainesville has the exact same setup as i do and he came to get his car tuned as well and as soon as we put in the chipped ecu and got his car tuned his tach is jumping around just like mine. I find it a bit of a question to ask why. I do not believe there is anything wrong with my distributor at all. The car does not hesitate or studder or anything of that sort. The tach will go all crazy but the car still pulls just fine with no problems.
