thinking about boost...
after having my ep for alittle over ayear im pretty bored with it. love it. but bored. its been in the shop after getting into a minor fender bender the other day for almost a week now and i feel that with this fresh paint, i should probably not drive her this winter... leaving me ample time to put together a nice set up
i was just wondering what turbo kits you guys are been putting with stock a3s. my goal range is around 300whp. i need to do esmm, and a new clutch.. plus i have alittle over 100k.. so my real question to you guys is:
should i snag another a3 block for dirt cheap and slap a turbo on there, or should i build myself something over this winter. maybe an a3 with a z3 head? maybe cams pistons rods yada yada.
my goal is 300whp, and with my lack of car enthusists like myself, i turn to you, ephatch. to guide me in the right direction to a decent, reliable, 300whp ep. hopefully one that doesnt KILL my wallet as well
my friend who has a fully build STI and is making over 400whp says that i should just put a greddy turbo kit, or a jrsc on there and get myself a good tune. OBVIOUSLY KPRO IS A MUST. but what route should i take guy. i need your opinions because my friends are a complete lack of help, and the serch button doesnt answer my exact questions. as i feel actual convorsation is the best method to retain knowledge
soooooooo i'll check back on here in an hour or so, and hopefully some of you fine gents have graced me with some advice and direction!
thanks!!!

Your friend is right. If you don't want to deal with all the turbo headache go with JRSC, cheaper, but if you are wanting to go for more power go with turbo. And of course K PRO is a must if you wanna get that car running haha.
Have you ever beaten your motor that badly ? If you did, i'd suggest you either swap it out or replace some of the internals before boosting. But if you haven't. 100k isn't that bad if you wanna stay in low boost.
But just if you want to know what I would do if I had the money is. Hah, What I would do though is, buy a K24A2 block slap on a K20A/2 head and look onto JRSC later down the road

If you are just looking for 300 whp then you really don't need to rebuild the internal. I wouldn't do internals if you are looking to save some money. I wouldn't think that you need to unless you are going for 10lbs or more. Since the motor is already high compression, you don't need a lot of work to get to 300. My guess is that 7 pounds will bring you pretty close to where you wanna be. Revhard sells a kit that i bought for less than 4000 dollars. that come with everything you need from bov to kpro. It is a complete kit. I boosted my DC5 at about 120k miles and running strong. Clutch would be a good investment but I would say the stock clutch will hold for a while at the amount of torque. If not i recommend a competition stage 4 clutch. it is a 6 puck sprung clutch but still driveable daily imo. I went with the revhard over the greddy as it will be easier to get more power if you decide to later since you have kpro with it.
Edit: just reread and saw a3..... ummm... yeah... there is a greddy turbo kit out there, definitely would need kpro if you want 300. their management might get you to about 240whp if you are lucky

well i do not want to be purchasing ****.. then being disappointed.. then purchasing ****.. then being disappointed. id like to skip the bs and get to my main point. 300whp and RELIABILITY
haha
haha
Please don't ever use "cheap" and "reliable" in the same sentence. That is because it's nearly impossible. Just remember this...
Fast+Reliable=Expensive, Fast+Cheap=Non-Reliable, Cheap+Reliable=Not Fast.
Fast+Reliable=Expensive, Fast+Cheap=Non-Reliable, Cheap+Reliable=Not Fast.
do what i did....biuld it into a type-r.....

With a good tune and supporting mods IE Kpro, injectors, RBC you should be close to 300whp

I put a greddy turbo kit on my ep and its 240hp with 9 psi. All I have is 16g turbo with 650 injectors,k-pro,stage 3 clutch light weight flywheel and tuned and it runs clean with 85k on it. All you got to do is put minor parts to make it 300hp. Like maybe fuel pump bigger injectors. My turbo kit was 4g's. But its safe and runs good.
cheap, fast, reliable.
pick two, and you'll never have the other one
