02-04 vs 05-06 type s knuckle HOw to tell?
Hey guys, I was wondering how do you tell the difference between an 02-04 type s knuckle and the 05-06 knuckle? I want to know because I bought a front knuckle from some guy he said it came from an 02 type S. Now the balljoint is really messed up so I ordered a new balljoint from rockauto.com and tried to replace it. It doesnt fit.......So I thought rockauto sent me a wrong one. i returned to them and they sent me another one... DOESNT FIT AGAIN!! To my knowledge, the newer type s joint is NOT the same as the 02-04 so I called the guy back saying he sold me an 05-06 type s. He argue and argue with me saying its an 02 type s... So Is there any way I can prove that this knuckle is from an 05-06? The knuckle came complete, calipers, sensors, pads, rotors, etc. Its from an RSX type S alright, just can't prove the year.... Thanks.

part number for 05-06 #51210-S6M-A10
02-04 is almost the same #51210-S6M-010
if they were the same they would have the same part #
also the 05-06 uses a bigger castle nut as opposed to the 02-04
05-06 uses a 14MM nut 90363-S3V-A01
02-04 uses a 12MM nut 90363-S47-000
which means the lower ball joints ARE different and you can show him his along with the part number.
you can show him all this and prove to him he's wrong.. it's happened to me before so i understand how you feel about this..

Re: 02-04 vs 05-06 type s knuckle HOw to tell?
Thanks alot Types7 for such a fast reply/help! I honestly didnt even notice that. i always thought all lower joint castle nuts are the same such as the base rsx/ep3/type s (except 05-06 now that I know that..).
EDIT: ok just to be clear, are you talking about the inner or outter size of the nut? (really sorry for me being such a newb... I really am. just trying to learn. Thanks)

Hmmm, just tested everything... I think you're mistaken? I got a 17mm crown nut and it fits on my stock knuckle and on the new purchased knuckle just fine......... same size... dont know what you meant by 12mm vs 14mm crown nut... are you sure your not talking about the tie rod end crown nuts?
