why am i burning oil???
ok i have a 200 honda civic ex and it has 232k miles and i just recently started burning oil any suggestions why? im using 5w30 witch is what the oil cap says to use is that the right kind??
idk today when i was driving home i lost all engine power pulled over started it and was driving and it happend again then when i tried to start it again it didnt start then the 2nd time it hesitated to start but then started any suggestions would be appreciated. and is this a serious prolem i m supposed to drive about 200 miles tomarrow do u think ill be ok if i just keep the oil filled

I'm running into issues with oil myself but not as bad as you seem to be. Go rent a compression tester and check the compression for each cylinder. Also, I don't know if you have checked for leaks but if you get some white poster board and leave it under your car when you park it, mostly under the engine and trasmission, you can see if you are leaking and from where. Try changing the oil and filter. Lastly, take it to a shop and have them run some diagnostics on it.
Ha ha. Honda's, just like any other car can start to burn oil after a while. The engine is now older and has lots of mileage on it. You can drive it like that for years if you want.
When and engine gets old and well used the two most common things that contribute to oil consumption are the wear on the piston rings, and the the valve seals dry out. Replacing them is your only solution to solve the problem on that motor.
