If I activate VTEC a few times while I'm driving around (about 4 or more), my engine starts to give off a smell. It starts to smell like roasted/burnt tires for a few seconds, then goes away. Is this normal? I thought it may be the oil burning from being ran hard. Any ideas?

 

i guess every honda does that, at least mine does

If you want, I can ride in it next week and see if the smell is normal. Did you recently get your oil changed? Make sure that the oil filter is on tight.

 

Yeah, just PM when you can do it. I changed my oil a few weeks ago, but the smell was there before I changed it.

 

Mine will reek like oil sometimes when beaten on, seems fine tho, as the oil levels are always fine when i check them.

smoke = bad.

 

check/monitor your oil level.. that smell is likely oil burning.. it could also be your clutch.. you gotta pay more attention and get more details on this. how many miles on car, what type of oil.. how often do you change oil
