Yeah I just wiped with water and a clean rag, and then use a wax and grease remover provided by your paint store.

I just wet sand let the residue dry and the dust left wipes of very easily.. Than clean the surface with an amonia based cleaner. Than you could give it a quick light wipe with acetone before next coat and go over it with a tack cloth.

Water doesnt remove any contaminents that might be there, the paint will fisheye at any sign of contamination, even the smallest amount.

Use Prep Solvent. You can buy this stuff at any automotive paint store. Ive found the best way to use it is to put it in a spray bottle and spray small areas at a time. Just make sure you use a clean rag to wipe off the spray instantly after you spray it on before it evaporates. If it evaporates before you wipe it off, it doesnt really do what its meant to do.
