Default vtec sputter

00 honda civic coupe w/b18c. My vtech kicks in then will sputter in and out of vtech. does not always do this. doesnt seemed to be at a certain rpm, just random. I have had the motor in for 4 years. just started to do this the past two weeks. What might cause this and what can I do to fix it? I did a search but with no luck. any help is appreciated. thanks.

very true. for instance, your vtec solenoid may be due for a good cleaning. if that metal screen gets clogged up real bad, that will cause vtec to cut out or not engage at all after time.

Wut about loss of power abotu 700rpm before the vtec crossover? then onec vtec has engaged it's as weak as the lower rpm's? I've been faced with this little problem for a while..btw, plenty of oil.

could need cleaned. if its all gummed up it can suffocate it from the proper oil supply, as well as it can cause sensors to not get an accurate reading in the first place. which in the long run can cause your engine to perform funky about the time of vtec crossover. its worth a shot. i used cold oven cleaner, then compressed air to blow it all out. worked like a charm. I also replaced the gasket and screen and vtec hasn't been healthier.
