Default V-Tec problem...please help!

Hello, im a Type R newbie...i just got my R a few weeks ago...the car is mint only 55k on the motor, and its a 98...bone stock.

Anyways the v-tec has been working fine...but then today i noticed something...basically the v-tec kicks in where it is supposed to however you can barely hear it or feel it...i can tell its there however its ALOT quieter than it used to be and i dont feel as much of a pull when it kicks in...

I dont understand what the problem could be...i did a oil change last week and i checked my oil tonight...there actually seems to be TOO MUCH oil in there...could that be the problem?

Any ideas guys...?

Thanks

too much oil isn't good, but just to make sure, did you check the oil on a level surface with the engine off for at least 5 minutes?

there is a screen/filter inside the VTEC solenoid. IF this becomes clogged it can cause a problem with the engagement of vtec .........

That motor takes 4L of oil. Not a drop more. I don't even need to check it anymore. 4L and you're good. How much did you put in???

well since oil circulates throught the solenoid, the purpose of the screen is to keep dirt and particles from going through the solenoid..and eventually, with all the dirt building up on the screen, it might clog up a bit and not let the proper amount of oil circulate through

4L is correct (4.2 quarts) after oil change with filter.
However, it calls for 4.8L after overhaul, so I would imagine that unless your guy added a couple quarts too much that its probably ok. Hows your air filter look?

well my car has been sitting outside for 4 hours now...so i went to check the oil again and there is definetly too much in there...its almot a centimeter over the limit on the dip stick...

could TOO much oil have anything to do with the v-tec not working properly?

also...how do i check the screen in the v-tec silenoid, is it hard to open it up? sorry for all the noob questions...but im...well...a noob

you can pull the vtec solenoid off by the 3 10mm bolts that attach it to the head..as soon as you take it off..VOILA!! its right there

when some people have this problem its because the matrix of the cat is screwed/partially screwed and its created a block for the exhaust gas

i know its a remote possibility but its worth checking out before you start pulling your engine apart

TOO MUCH OIL IS THE PROBLEM, BEFORE U CHECK UR OIL RUN YOUR CAR AROUND THE BLOCK UNTIL WARM AND THEN LET IT CHILL AND THEN CHECK OIL.
