Rebuild D16Y8 or do a Swap?
For the same amount of money the D16 is going to allow you to run more boost safely (a lot more than a stock B18 will take) and make plenty more power. If money is falling out of your ***, get a B18C swap, build it, AND turbo it. Oh yeah, NAWS too....two bottles wouldn't hurt!
And see, you can probably sleeve your block and get all forged guts for less than that. Depending on your turbo you should be able to get at LEAST 350 WHP out of a built D16, whereas you'll probably max out around 250 on a stock B18B.
See on the B18B you'd want a GSR tranny and probably a ported head and better intake like a Skunk2, which adds to the overall cost, plus a new turbo mani and modified piping if you're already turbo.
EDIT: Ah, looks like you're not turbo yet anyway!

If it ain't one thing it's another. I had planned on having mine on by last July, but then the garage door on my house fell apart, and that was only the beginning...needless to say it did not happen as planned. It took me until December to finally get it on there!

Sell your B18B and build the D16 to no end. You'll be happy when you beat some domestic punk with only a 1.6L SOHC engine.
I, as well as others, are putting everything (well mostly everything) into that D16.
Good Luck!

LoL, no unfortunetely I don't have a lot of money. I wish I did. I can get a B18B COMPLETE swap for $2700.
And D-series OEM parts are MUCH cheaper than B-series parts, so the rebuild doesn't cost that much.
Aftermarket parts are going to get costly, but B-series parts do cost more than D-series when regarding aftermartket. Any path you choose to follow, it will leave a hole in your pocket.
heh, no OEM parts for my pistons etc. I am most definetely going to need stronger rods, better pistons, stronger valvetrain etc for what I am looking to do.
A whole swap? Where? Does it include ECU, tranny, axels, piping, intake manifold, headers, throttle body, tranny mounts, engine mounts, etc?
Well, how much are you wanting to boost? D16 internals are stronger than people give them credit for, as for me I'm using stock Y8 pistons, LS rods, ACL bearings, ARP head studs and rod bolts, and the rest OEM and I will be running 12psi daily.

And I would love to see you drive 12psi daily with no problems. Good luck mang!
There are many people on the board that do....hell, the FMax kit boosts 15psi on a stock D16Y8...
I'll be running very rich, dyno-tuned, and a MSD 6BTM to retard timing under boost, plus I'm building the engine with my own 2 hands, so I KNOW it is done right.
Peace

I am going to be doing most of the work on my engine, the only things I won't be doing is porting polishing and all machine work. I am looking to boost 12-14 PSI daily, so stock internals won't cut it. It is one thing when you only do it every once in a while but when you want it daily, stock won't cut it, any ideas for a good turbo cam?
build it dude, that's what i'm doin. check out www.jgenginedynamics.com $2500 and run 20psi all day long....well maybe not 20, but the d16 sleeved will withstand up to 30psi. you can run enough boost to kick any b series *** you want. and when you pop the hood, all they is that little SOHC.
EDIT: oh not to put down on b series, don't want to **** anyone off,
i am just excited to see support for the SOHC lately

I've seen posted d16 blocks hold 20-25psi daily and drag cars.
What you have to worry about on the D-series motors is the weak transmission and axels...a Quaife diff and driveshaftshop.com axels put a fix to that thou
I've got a spare D16 block that I thought about posting and putting some JEs and eagles into to boost 20psi, but I think I am just going to start working on a B-series after I get this motor finished, but who knows.
