vtec will not pop and temperature gauge acting dumb! need help
I have a 1996 Acura Integra with a 1994 GSR motor in it and it will not pop vtec and the temperature gauge will say the engine is over heating, but when I step on the gas or stay at a constant speed the temperature gauge goes back down. I have one CEL and it is the IAT sensor. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
sounds like you need to address the cel and the overheating problem first. have you checked ur coolant level? and you put an obd1 motor in a obd2 car...is the wiring and ecu correct?
I agree. Yes, I have checked my coolant level and it is full and I have no leaks. As far as I know my wiring is correct and I am using an obd2 gsr ecu. I have an obd1 ls ecu and I plugged it in and I still have a cel.
the overheating problem sounds like a water pump or a thermostat problem, my ef did the same then the pump got changed and it stopped
im a little bit confused how ur interchanging obd1 and obd2 ecu's....i thought the plugs were different. and also, distributor is different and crank sensor on obd2's....which you cant put on a obd1 motor.
also....vtec is at 4400rpms on a gsr....ive never really heard it "pop" on my 95 gsr. more smooth crossover than on a b16...or even the gsr with the vtec raised to a higher rpm.

Sorry about that. I have jumpers on my obd1 ecu so I connect it to an obd2 car. I replaced the thermostat, water pump, timing belt, and timed the car today and my gauge is acting normal again. So do philafelman, do you think the vtec is popping I just cannot feel it?

yeah, its possible....the only time i heard mine is after i put on a header/exhaust, and even then, it wasnt that loud...if its not throwing any vtec cels, and feels like its accelerating ok, then you might not wanna worry about it. if it feels laggy, then you might wanna check it out.
Philafelman, I have headers and an exhaust and it does feel really laggy. Where vtec should be popping the rpms take longer to reach redline that is how I can tell it is not working properly.
