my obd2 iat was located on the intake tube... but the obd1 b16 has it on the intake manifold so i cut the clip from obd1 harness & wired it in place of the obd2 that was on the car... and "CEL 10" popps up...

im pretty sure VTEC needs to read the speed sensor in order to work.
about the iat, test the plug-in for 5 volts with a multimeter. then check for continuity across the sensor (makes a beep)

i do not throw a code for speed sensor but my mph does not work... and i just replaced the cluster and still nothing ! any ideas on this?

would the speedo not working matter about my vtec even tho i have a socketed & chipped ecu?

you can start by checking the sensor itself
you can put it in your freezer or something to change the temperature then check the resistance it should change from before u put it in and after if it doesnt that means its bad.
the sensor works by the temperature it reads. so as the temperature changes it sends diffrent readings to the ecu.
also buyin a helms manual really helps. it will help with all your problems..
\and pothole987 is right if the cars not moving vtec wont engage and if your speedo doesnt work than the same thing. maybe theres a broken connection to your speedo.

use this thread to check yor wiring from your vss to the ecu and make sure you have good continuity.. and you could also do the same for your iat

its not supposed to look broken.. try just pluging in your iat from the single cam just let it hang for now and see if the light goes away..
and are u reseting the ecu everytime u try to fix it cause most the time the light just doesnt go off either take the fuse out or disconnect the battery..
about the vss if u already swapped it try checking it im pretty sure u just check the resistance on it and see if it fluctuates.. but im not exactly sure buy a helms.

and its always best tto check things not just swap them out if your doing work yourself invest in the right tools like a volt/ohm meter

If you haven't already tried it and it is wired correctly try disconnecting your battery for a few minutes. I had a busted IAT sensor, stripped the wires and reconnected, still had a CEL. After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery the CEL went away.

this was on my rsx.
