i just finished my boosting my mini me, so stoked my first turbo build. the thing is whacking boost but as the title says it has a slight sputter in the range of 2600 to 3000 rpm. What could this be? i was thinking fuel. now im waiting on some 400cc injectors but right now im running a walboro255 with a fmu. any ideas anybody on what could be causing the sputter? mahalo

I wouldn't boost it again until you put a wideband on and get those afr in a safe zone

 

yeah, lol i figured, i just ordered 440cc injectors and a chipped turbo p28 so hopefully that will help correct it. its just sitting in the garage sleeping . what do you think its that needed to get wide band? i would think the walboro fuel pump fmu and injectors will be enough. or what do you think? better to be safe and tune yeah? i'm going to be doing all the tuning myself, so any thing to help make it easier. also has any one used the innovative data logger? if so hows it work?

 

you don't need a FMU. use a chipped ECU, walbro fuel pump, bigger injectors and tune it from there with CROME, eCtune or Neptune.

 

Fmu's are bs then, thats what ive heard alot of people say. i got it for free, you think i should run it or take it out? i mean it cant be hindering it right?

What is an fmu?:
A Fuel Management Unit (FMU) is a special rising rate fuel pressure regulator placed in the fuel return line of the fuel injection system. This is a very common approach to handling the increased fuel demand required by turbo kits and supercharger kits. It does work. It will make the injectors flow more fuel than their rating. These are used in addition to the factory or aftermarket fuel pressure regulator and only have an affect under boost.
FMUS are rated by the ratio of fuel pressure to boost pressure. For instance, a 10:1 FMU will give you 100psi fuel pressure at 10 psi boost pressure.

Why you shouldn't run an fmu/missing link?:
Fmu's are considered a "hack" they overload your injectors with high fuel pressure to compensate for boost pressure. This is the improper solution for fuel management on a forced induction vehicle. Most stock engine computers do not retard timing under boost hence causing dangerous engine conditions. A missing link simply stops the manifold pressure sensor from seeing positive pressure, hence preventing a check engine light.

If you will be tuning, you'll need the wide band to datalog. Crome/Hondata/AEM EMS/Neptune, etc.. yes, they're all great applications for modifying your maps.

The FMU works, but its not as accurate as an EMS.
