hey,
i recently replaced the drums on my 97 civic and have since had a really loud squeak as i slowly come to a stop. it isn't persistant throughout the entire stop, but right at the end. is there something i can lube up to get rid of this? the drums were not turned before replacing the shoes. could I have adjusted the shoes out too tight? thanks for any help.

 

Wait, so did you replace the drums or the brake shoes? Because if the drums were new why would you need to have them turned?

Can you turn the drum manually when you replaced the shoes?

You sure it might not be your wheel bearing?

 

pretty sure, does it consistantly under braking. doesn't make a noise if im not on the brakes.

 

you might have to lube the backplate of the shoes so they wont squeak i had the same problem

 

i would take the drums off and have a shop turn them for you.

next time you put them on lighlty sand down the new shoes since your dirty grubby hands will be all over the lining materials of the new shoes.

wheel bearings dont squeek.. please stop saying they do ^^^^ wheel bearings are full of grease. if you dont have grease in the wheel bearing then they will make noise. that noise will be a growling effect or a rumble, not a squeek. a squeek is a vibration from two hard surfaces. i cant picture a greased unit squeeking

 

you should lube the contact points in the drum/shoe assembly except on the shoe surface of course

usually all the contact points will be shiny from rubbing so they are easy to spot.

i forgot to do that once and it made some hella squeal.
