Default speedo help?

I have searched for a while now and cant seem to figure it out, so here it goes. I have a 00 em1 si and my speedometer just went out. It would work then go out, i would floor it all the way to vtec then i would kick in. Well that worked for a while and now it just stopped working. It had a check engine code of vss, so i went and replaced it and still nothing. I have checked the plugs behind the cluster and they seem fine. The tach does work, just the speedo doesnt. Any help would be appreciated. thanks everyone...oh and vtec dont work anymore

Replace the cluster. The odds that it's a bad VSS are low, but that's a possibility too.

VSS, wires/grounds, or speedo/cluster, in order of increasing likelihood. That's all there is in the system.

Do you still have the VSS code? Do the tripmeter and odometer also stop working? If so, check the VSS power and ground wires, as well as the VSS wire that goes to the speedometer.

I had something similar to this going on about a week ago and the fuse for the VSS was blown. After replacing it, it came back then blew again right away, the air inlet sensor was all f'ed up and was shorting it out. Check for shorts. I doubt there is anything wrong with the actual cluster.

i am having the same problem with my H22 del sol. i replaced my vss and still not working but as far as your vtec not working, the car has to be going 35 mph for vtec to kick in so if your not reading any speed then your ecu thinks your not moving.
