Default Turbo Leaking oil. smoke everywhere!!!

well, today, I was supposed to get my car tuned.(sucks) oh BTW, it IS tuned now but I was going to max out my T3/T4 since I have the injectors now.

my turbo was rebuilt a couple weeks ago and I installed it. ran it a couple times, but had problems. I did a leakdown and found my headgasket to be the blame, so I changed it.

today drove it around and it smoked everywhere. I got home, removed the downpipe and started it. I saw oil coming out of the exhaust housing, and that is the cause of my smoke. so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't my head, so I removed the turbo manifold and there was no smoke coming out. so my thing is this. the turbo was rebuilt because it had some shaft play and I figured to take care of it before I try to max it out. it never smoked. it's a turbonetics, so it runs that screen filter and I have no restrictor. I'm using a -3 oil in and 1" return with no kinks. pretty much the same setup for years and now I'm having this smoking problem.

what should I do? take the turbo back to the guy who rebuilt it? run a oil restrictor? can a restrictor solve my issue or is it too late. remember, I never ran a restrictor in the past and it never smoked....EVER. thanks for your help.

Sounds like it wasnt rebuilt properly...Or maby there is carbon built up on the seals?

When they did a rebuild was it fully rebuilt?? or just new bearings? if the seals wernt changed then its a good chance that that is your problem.

I'm having the exact same problem as you only with a precision turbo. I was going to do something a little different with my set up so i decided ill send my turbo out to get rebuilt since there was minor shaft play and some oil was leaking to the downpipe. I sent it out to get fully rebuilt, seals, 360 thrust bearing, thicker rings costed me $400 and its now leaking oil like crazy. Checked manifold to see if oil was coming out through the head and that came out fine. When i put the turbo on the car theres alot of oil coming from the exhaust outlet. Blaastperformance rebuilt the turbo ended up sending it to Precision to get checked over and its still with them now. With cost of shipping and rebuilding it i could of bought a new turbo.

Yeah, I plan to take it to him tommorrow to see what he has to say. oil was leaking bad, and now my 3" exhaust is coated with oil. sucks. it's gonna be a smoker for awhile. but there are 2 guys here who are the go to guys for rebuilds. I went to one of them and yeah....ummmm. a not so good experience.

the shop that rebuilt my turbo, rebuilt it again at NO COST!!! awsome customer service, and I got all those old parts that were replaced back. yes it included new seals too. he went over a few things that could be causing my oil problem and I decided to give the ATP oil restrictor a try. I haven't recieved it yet, but what do you guys think of running a .065" restrictor? I am not sure as to if this is going to be too small or big or what. but I ordered it.

Did oil end up inside the intercooler also? If so, how was that resolved?

Other people will claim -3an is more than small enough, I call bullshit. Get it rebuild again, then join the happy crowd of people running restrictors.

btw just noticed kamAccord dragged this from a month ago. If you cared to read it all, he said it was ONLY in the exhaust turbine, nothing in the engine. If you get oil on something use degreaser, its simple.
