Is it still on? Check your CEL code. http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq.html

He is refering to the last phrase of the initial post...

Anyway here are a few possible reasons for the Engine light to come on:

-Secondary O2 sensor fault. Do you have an aftermarket cat. converter?
-Knock sensor fault.
-Misfire in one of the cylinder. Check your plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap /
rotor.

There must be several other reasons but off the top of my head...

checking the safety code # will enable you to then look in a manual and find out what it is.

if you don't know how to do this i can explain.

Heh I was just messin' with ya iLLestjr already told you to check the CEL code anyway--that's what I'd do too.

The (obscure) reference was to a Strong Bad email from http://www.homestarrunner.com (Trevor the Vampire)

My 2001 ITR has the same problem. Check engine light is on with code #1. I have a Comptech IceBox, Spoon 2-ply head gasket, AEM pulleys, Mugen thermostat, and Mugen radiator cap. Everything else is stock. I also noticed a hesitation sort of like if you remove your foot off the gas pedal while you were driving and then suddenly press it again; this problem goes away after the car is driven for a few minutes. Another thing I observed is that idle is a little rough and my plugs are black (not light brown like I am used to seeing).

I am thinking there is a problem with the ignition module. I don't think just the head gasket and IceBox would cause enough of a change in the mixture to fail the sensor. I also have AEM cam gears installed but set to 0,0 so I will count these as OEM.

Suggestions ??

Don't forget to check your gas cap. I've thrown 2 CEL's cause of a bad gas cap... click that sucker down....

Just to follow up... I visited my Acura dealer this afternoon. I explained the problem and they examined the car. They tell me that I am correct in my theory; the ignitor module has gone bad. They told me this is a common problem they've seen in a few 2000 and 2001 VTEC Integras (GS-R and ITR) but it's supposed not to reappear once it is fixed. They ordered the ignitor module and gave me an appointment to come in this Friday to get it installed.

I am crossing my fingers and hoping this fixes the problem permanently!!

if running a #1 code (O2 sensor) the ECU will make the motor run rich as a precaution. i've had problems with O2 sensors in the past. either they wear out or they foul out due to extra fuel from larger injectors. also if you're plugs are black it could be from too much fuel.

driving with the #1 code you should notice a considerable increase in fuel consumption.
