Default total noob stupid question....have to start somewhere

i live in a place where, lets just say, im going to be tuning my own set up. ive built engines, thats no problem, they all run great, but i have always had the luxury of just taking them to church's or whitfields to get them tuned.

not this time.

that being said, hondata s300. is this real time meaning, changes can be made on the lap top hooked to the ecu, or is it still neccesary to burn a chip, and drop it into the socket as with crome? is the lap top just a real time monitor?

ill get a basemap to get me started. then its goign to get a street tune, then i will rent a dyno for a few hours once i am competent enough to not waste my time.

The s300 does not use a chip or require any burning of chips. It connects via USB and is real-time programmable with a laptop.

The S300 is a good system. If you are set on using the S300 and you are new to tuning then familarize yourself with the system.

fyi you don't have to burn a new chip every time with crome

you use laptop to make changes and monitor at the same time hence real-time

Hondata is the easiest for someone learning to tune.

Im just starting as well...after years of putting together motors....and got S300 in my car. My tuner is just not getting back to me on when I get my disk and usb cable though.....GRR....so Im just running on a map and waiting.

does S300 have wideband capabilities or do you have to get a zeitronics or something separate? its an ITR and i plan on hooking the S300 up with the stock motor in it and learning while i build another motor for it, so by the time its time to drop the new motor im reasonably proficient.

you need a wideband no matter what whether is be plx, innovate, ngk, zeitronics..... it has ability to datalog wideband but you still need a wideband controller and sensor.

Why do you believe Hondata is easier than Neptune? I had my car start, idle fine and drive pretty well just on the auto-generated base map. Not being argumentative, just curious.

Hondata does have target lamda values for datalogging/tuning purposes, however this is not exactly the proper way to tune a vehicle with any engine management system. You should always manually edit your fuel tables for the best result.

That is not what I am talking about. In Neptune, you can enter the type of ECU, injector size, type of MAP sensor, etc. and it will automatically build a base map for you.

Yes I would assume that hondata you can, because you can with eCtune and free crome...

see this is helpful for a guy who just built a king-kong motor, has to tune it himself, and just wants to fire it up and not wash out the rings, or burn a hole in the piston right off the bat.
