Icon6 Crazy Idea Again let me know what you think

Alright guys...
Another one of my ideas that I had last night. is it possible to spool a large turbo with a small turbo. IE. I have a b18c with a small turbo (50 trim t3) run like normal except the compresser output is attached to the turbine of a large turbo (GT42) the exhaust side of the large turbo is re routed to the intake of the small or large turbo (havent realy thought this far) let me know what you all think.
Just a crazy idea
Eddie

That's called compound charging and is very common among hi-po diesels.

Sure. I think the main issue is reliable boost control. You can make a lot of boost relatively quickly, but the problem is getting it to stop boosting at some point.

An example of the boost response with compound charging is a cool 7m-gte Mk3 Supra in Sweden. It's got an Eaton M90 feeding a Holset HX55.

Boost at rpm:
0.5 bar at 1800
1.0 bar at 3000
1.5 bar at 3500
2.5 bar at 4000
3.0 bar at 4300

and redline at 8000. And that's in 5th gear.

The problem with an SC feeding a turbo is the theory that makes a normal possitive displacement device work. X amount of air can be pushed through - or pulled through. It needs to be run at a very high speed relative to what it was designed for. Reverse it (turbo then SC) and run the SC at lower boost (peak efficiency), and you don't suffer from that issue.

Compounding 2 devices works well if you want some crazy boost for a diesel. Gasoline eninges prefer flow to pressure, though, or at least not crazy pressures. The main problem with doing it on a Honda is space constraints. A truck's engine bay has much more space for 'exotic' equipment like that.

you see what im thinking is have a smaller turbos boost (compresser output) feeding the larger turbos turbine side. im not talking a turbo supercharger. im thinking that here will be no ehaust pullses to wory about the small turbo will spool quickley to feed the larger turbos turbine without missing a beat therefore eliminating a lot of lag acompied by a large single turbo.
