Default CHECK engine light need help, can't figure it out HELP!!!

car is a 97 civic dx hatchback... swap obd1 gsr

i am using a 98 civic EX harness and running a OBD2a to OBD1 jumper p28 chip ecu

when i turn the car to ON position the check engine will come on and stay on.. usually it dissappear after 2 sec but it just stay on... jump the code and it blink one long over and over i counted up to 19 timies, i was thinking code 10 maybe, checked my IAT but its seem to be fine... then i thought CODE 20?? regrounded the ELD wire, same thing.... checked the main engine harness wire, connected to the thermostat and ran a wire stragiht to the battery NEG. no luck... did some research and people was saying the ecu wasn't grounded good enough?? so i grounded the ecu wire i belive it was B24? no luck... i try swapping out ecu to another p28 chip but does the same thing...

then i was thinking, maybe my jumper harness is bad, so i used another one from my buddy and i still get the check engine light and it stay on...

then i use a obd2a gsr ecu, check engine light came on the off like normal then it came back on, but i check the code and it was the same code as before, i know for a fact that i should get more code then that, ex: knock sensor, O2 etc etc etc....

the only thing i haven't tried is swapping the engine harness out to another Ex harness... but the 96-98 Ex harness is hard to find and expensive if you find one, so i am trying to avoid that route because my car still run but fill weak...

any suggestion would be great!!!

if you have OBD1 then there is no knock sensor.
get a scanner and plug it in and read the code?

If its code 20 check/clean all your grounds and the battery terminals. I had it awhile back and it fixed the problem. Hopefully its just something as simple as this.

yea while u check all of them touch the 2 battery terminals together for 10+ seconds to reset the ecu so there will not be any codes when u start it back up...and no not the terminals on the battery itself you will just blow up your battery (you dont understand how many times i have to tell people that)

i triple check all my grounds, i also thought it could be a ground issue so i took a FAT WIRE and ran one wire to the battery NEG and ran it straight to the main ground on the harness (by the thermostat) still check engine light..

by checking i mean cleaning off the corrosion and such, i hope you understood. Mine didnt look that bad but after a little cleaning that did the trick. It could also be some aftermarket wiring shorting out or whatnot, ie deck, speakers, amps,. possibly alarm or peripheral gauges of some sort.

Wiring is a bitch, i've been through a few problems myself due to improper installs. Sorry if im not being much help, hope you figure this out.
