burning oil and bad gas mileage??
i have a 2000 honda civic si and its burning so much oil its horrible i have a feeling it could be valve stem seals or need new ringsss but just trying to get other opioions.
i also burn or lose alot of gas im only throwing a code for bad cat... but i think maybe one of my injectors may be sticking open but you can smell gas before its all the way warmed up any suggestions??

I had the same problem. Check your O-Rings (around your fuel injectors). It may not look bad, but trust me it will need replacing.

trI dont think its a code for a bad cat, I think your mixture is just too damn rich. Put in a bottle of Techron in your tank along with some chevron gas ( if you have it) for a double shot of techron. That will clean out your injectors. And like someone already suggested check the O-Rings. Not sure about burning oil. Depends on how much it burns. It could be piston rings.

pour SeaFoam directly into the gas tank, 1 full can. This works WAY better than techron/injector cleaner. The carb on my bike was clogged so bad it wouldn't even run. I poured half a can of SeaFoam into the tank and let it idle for half an hour, took it out and romped on it, and it runs like a dream now. Everybody told me I'd have to disassemble the carbs.

people should be banned from saying this, if he is posting on here he obviously doesn't want to go to a shop and all this does is discourage people who are trying to learn about there car.

seriously. *** shops, unless you or you friend owns them because in that case they rock, because they always have tons of power/air tools so you can do work so much faster. And like racks and racks of sockets of every size

Re: burning oil and bad gas mileage??
I can vouch for seafoam, it solved alot of stuttering and random gas mileage drops. full bottle in my gas tank after the car was warmed up, let it idle for 5 minutes, then i drove in 3rd gear at about 45mph for a few minutes, did a few kinda hard accelerations, then drove normal. Smoothed my idle a bit, better and more importantly, consistent gas mileage, and overall better performance.

As for oil burning, the easy no-hood-pop check is to find a hill and coast down with the throttle closed (idle position). if when you get back on the gas it puffs smoke and then smokes way less after driving a few seconds, its rings, according to someone I asked on SHO. My car burns alot of oil as well.

Wow. That is the first time I have heard someone suggesting pouring a full can of seafoam into the fuel tank. But anyways, when was the last time you had an oil change? Valve adjustment?
