Icon2 Borg Warner turbos

Originally I was going to go with the Full-Race T4/T67 kit but I think I can get the same power or more sending a lil less money then that kit. So I'm about to start putting together a turbo kit of my own for my B20 vtec. I narrowed my turbo selection to the Borg Warner's. My goal is to make a consistent 475-500hp as a weekend warrior (ill be using hondata s300 boost by gear option to help traction issues) . I was going to go with the s366 which I loved( for example; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh1CZuQQaBE ) til i read on here how much of a pain it was to run extra coolant lines for it (not sure if thats even true). But I came across the s258 which I believe will still get me to my power goal without hitting the s258 peak Hp ''aka'' room to grow.

Long story short I've seen prices for BW's NON extended tip $200-$400 lower then the extended version. My question is whats the difference I read it flows better but is there a night and day difference in HP?? Like if my goal is to make a minimum of 475hp and the non extended tip version gets me 465-470hp I'll actually be cool with that to save the money but if we're talking a BIGGER number difference. Then I see spending the extra money to meet closer to my goal. thanks guys for any help

The BW turbos aren't water cooled. The s258 should get you where you want to be..just go ahead and get the ETT, its what sets their turbos out from the crowd. Plus its part of the BW experience

Either the S256 or S258 will make the power you want. The S256 has been tested up to ~33psi and is still pretty efficient. At that PR, it was making ~550whp on an 81.5mm GSR. If you go to Bullseye's website, there is a good dyno of a local test unit from SLS.

I see that ur question bout coolant lines is already answered, but why is that such a pain? My 35r has them. No that big of a deal??

$100 less dollars to spend on lines, less clutter, a lower possibility of leaks etc

We have been selling a bunch of the s362's lately. They seem to be a great sized street/strip turbo.

Could have told you that years ago. (S362 is my favorite, especially in the smaller covers) The person in the video bought the turbocharger from me last year, so let me know what questions you may have.

Im finally glad someone explained to me the advantage of getting a Borg Warner extended tip but is that good enough reason to spend the extra $$ hmmm...... I guess so when you start talking about leaks

I found a pretty dam good deal on the s258 and I saw that its priced the same as the s362 with the option of getting a free polished housing (I call it the happy medium between s258-s366) So I say why not since im building a weekend warrior for the streets/track of PA/NJ/NYC and yes I know the s362 will get me over my goal. My question is to TheShodan and who ever can can tell me. I see people wanting the T3 more then the T4 why is that?? and As far as the exhaust housing goes and choosing one .55 .70 .83 .90 whats considered a good one to go with for 475-500hp goal?? and and why??

For T3, .70A/R is best. do not go by the numbering system garrett uses, it is different due to the different widths of the volute of the turbine housing. The .70 also houses a larger exhaust wheel than the others in the T3 platform. The .83 and .90 are T4 applications.

Thanks TheShodan your the man

I did have a quick question about wastegate spring rates for you or anyone that can give me some in site on them. As I said before my goal is 475-500hp and i plan on using a ramhorn exhaust manifold with a dump tube since i heard/read great things about using a dumptube.

On a BW s362 going for my hp goal what wastegate spring rate would be good to reach my goal .03-1.0 bar?? I plan on using a Tial 44mm WG with a hondata s300. I got confused on what spring to use since I've seen 3 to 4 different peoples 'aka' so called Rule Of Thumb sayings on here so I dont know what/who to go by. Any help would be great thanks

The borg warner 57 trims are going to slow production, so availability will be scarce after this year. Their applications were not that good as the smaller framed Garrett 50/57/60 trim setups, due to the fact that the exhaust wheels are a bit too large for the compressor wheel matchups.

I'd wait a bit before the spring rates, really. You'll need an S362 compressor map with PR ratios in order to determine the correct spring needed. In any case, I'd still use a boost controller to be sure that you get the power you want where you want it, and not just go by the spring. remember, a wastegate spring can only perform 2.5 times its rate.. take that in consideration when choosing a wastegate spring.
