Default Turbo kit options?

Hey people,
I've been researching doing a b20 swap into my eg for the last few months now, hence how I found this site, but I recently almost got scammed on an engin so I've decided to do what I've wanted to do ever since I was a kid and boost my b16.
I steered away from the boost idea when I first got my civic as I loved the fact it reved so high and was designed to be na.
I'm not after silly power as my car is used a lot, and on UK roads . I'm after maybe about 250-300 bhp.
I'm going to get some forged pistons as I don't think anyone in the UK can seem to build a boosted b16 on standard internals without it saying no.
What my main question is, what turbo kit would you recomend. As I've spent so long researching b20's I've kinda ignored anything to do with turbo's and there just seems to be so many on the market.
If anyone can give some advice it'd be a big help.

Thanks, Tom

Leave the engine stock, just add an Edelbrock turbo kit, a good clutch, exhaust and decat :nice:

You're really best off piecing together a kit yourself, because you will save a lot of money. However since you not in the US, it might be easier to get it all sent in one package for simplicity. Either way, you should do the research for piecing one together, so you can look at different kits and know what you're getting instead of going off of what others say. In the end you'll be much better prepared for troubleshooting and installing it!

I'm currently planning for a similar HP goal on my GSR, and will be putting together a basic kit on a budget. For me, it ends up to be a little over half of the cost of a kit for the numbers I'm looking for. Don't overlook tuning either! A chipped ECU will get you a long way, and will keep the engine safe with a good tune.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I did think about piecing my own kit together it's just I havn't really a clue about what turbo's what. Also what turbo's will fit what header?

Another thing is how much should I really be looking to pay? Money will be quite a big factor now with the £ getting weaker.

I'm going to be running an s300 ecu wise and I've already upgraded to a stage 2 clutch. I'm running a 2.1/2" exhaust at the mo. Will this be big enough or should I get a 3"?

3" ftw. 20 more horse on that alone lol.
This thread could go on for years with us never being able to help you lol. Just do some searching around and come to a conclusion on which kit seems to be the best for you. Almost any kit available for out cars will net you 265whp.

No problem,

For that power goal, a 2.5" is fine (It's what I'll be running also). The S300 is a great unit, so you're all set there. As for the turbo size/fitment, it just takes a lot of research. Just start looking around and looking at setups. If you buy a kit and don't know how it all works, you'll be screwed if something needs repairing! So again, either way I would really recommend taking the time.

Well I'm pretty clued up on how stuff works as I've helped build a few friends turboed motors. It's just the turbo choise etc that I'm finding difficult. As I said there are so many out there.

Thanks for your advice dudes.

Everybody on here saying to piece together your own kit, you guys don't realize this guy is in UK, i have a lot of friends there and i was born there, things are different there, they pay A LOT more for parts than we do and piecing together a kit for them could really be a bad and expensive idea, thats why i suggested a "kit".

That was my thinking blinx99000. It was ok about 6 months ago for us, I mean it was like $2.20-£1. Sadly I was in Afgahnistan at that point though and was planning my b20 build and was saving to do everything at once. Sadly as soon as I got home this recission hit and ****ed up all my plans.
I've found a few kits that look real nice from the traders on this site but with the exchange rate I will have to save a bit.

I actually explicitly mentioned that it might make more sense to get a kit for that very reason!

However since you not in the US, it might be easier to get it all sent in one package for simplicity.

Its archaic when compared to the edelbrock kit, here are some reasons why:

-Turbonetics wastegates ALL suck, even there $1000 Newgen gate cant hold anything over 15psi!
-turbonetics journal bearing turbo comes in there kit while a Dual ball bearing Garrett GT28RS comes in the Edelbrock kit which is far superior.
-Turbonetics bov vs the Tial bov that comes in the edelbrock kit, also far superior.
-Edelbrock its comes witn a pretuned ecu, additional fuel injectors and an intake manifold vs the Turbonetics kit comes with a fuel pump and fmu, obvoiusly once again the Edelbrock kit is superiour.

The edelbrock kit is much newer, the parts used are all better, its just way better there is no other way to say it.

Ok thanks people.

So I'm pretty much looking at edelbrock, peak boost, presision, afi or full race?

Are the traders on this site going to be my best bet in terms of prices for these parts?

Check out this kit:

http://www.treadstoneperformance.com...ries+Turbo+Kit

I used their kit on my F22 and my cars running sweet as.

Also Jason and the guys over at Treadstone are a great bunch, very helpful indeed.

Check out this months Banzai Magazine for a full feature on my car.

Let me know if you need any advice with regards to places to get your kit installed properly or tuners here in the UK.

IMO, the Greddy/Edelbrock/XS-Engineering kits are all the same. No matter which way you look at it, you're going to be limited by a few things, mainly the internally wastegated turbo and a small downpipe.

Both of these are going cause a bit of a headache when you do decide you want more power.

There are so many other options available, with kits focused on utilizing components that give the customer the opportunity to have room to grow, and not make it a short-term investment that in the future will have added costs.

To the OP, being your in the UK, I would say yes, you're going to be best suited dealing with a vendor on here for a complete solution, i.e. one big box with lots of parts in one transaction/shipment.

Ok thanks very much guys.

UK Accord, Yeah I saw your feature. Your car looks very nice indeed. I will have to give gotboost an email or call for some advice I think.
