i will be receiving my swap on friday from IAS, and i had a few Qs, some may sound stupid but bear with me. Im assuming the tranny will be drained and so what tranny fluid that i can get locally(not order) do you guys recommned. what maintenance should i do to the motor(timing belt, plugs,etc)? the swap will be fairly straightforward i know, is there anything else you guys recommend to do, im putting in my new action clutch too, i should get the flywheel resurfaced shouldnt i? thanks. any other help welcomed too.

 

I always use Honda tranny fluid. As far as what to tune up, it depends on how many miles are on it. Is it about time for a timing belt? If not just do the norm ie. cap, rotor, wires, belts. If you are putting in a new clutch I would recommend resurfacing the flywheel, but alot of places dont.

yeah, im taking it to napa to resurface. how much is a new cap + rotor? im doing plugs, maybe timing belt, all fluids. can i only get honda tranny fluid from a honda dealership? anything else?

 

I recommend changing the water pump and timing belt at the very LEAST. Unless you know for sure the engine has low mileage. It is so much easier while the engine is out of the vehicle, and you will kick yourself later if the belt breaks and you bent valves.

Also, dont go cheap on the distributor rotor if you change it. Ive seen some aftermarket rotors become loose or melt. Get at least a OEM rotor and make sure you use loctite on the screw that holds it in place.

 

are autozone or checker parts good enough? like timing belt,water pump, cap,rotor? and how much do they usually run for? also, what tools do i need aside from the standard sockets(i have a cherry picker too)? i.e. big socket for spindle nut or whatever its called. basically i want to have everything covered, gimme a shopping list.

 

anyone? and im getting my helms too.

 

I wouldn't purchase parts from Autozone or other autoparts stores. Do it right and go to Honda to purchase these parts. The Honda tranny fluid you can buy at Honda/Acura Dealerships and I believe some online places. Other than those places I don't know.

IMO, the best bet is the Honda factory parts. I use craftman tools from Sears. They have a lifetime warranty.

 

im sorry, i need to know what extra tools other than a cherry picker and the standard sockets do i need(i.e. really big sockets, specialty tools, etc)? how do these prices sound too:
