Default Custom Chip for P30 ecu

I just did the OBD1 swap on my crx, I was wondering if I can order a chip customized to my specs. But one question I have is whats the difference between having the knock sensor disabled or having it enabled? Also
V-tec doesn't always kick in till the motor is all the way warmed up, What is it called to have it kick in even when cold?

You can order a chip from a few dealers on here that are basemaps that will get you by. But it is always recommended to get the car tuned if you want the best performing motor.

The knock sensor being disabled is just that.. the ecu doesn't look for knock sensor feedback.. so it does not retard ignition if the knock count is high enough.

And vtec has a coolant check that only allows it to engage when it is over a certain temperature. IMO this should be kept in place. You should not be going WOT on the car until it is up to operating temperature in the first place!!

Well i figured someone would have a pretty decent basemap for a stock B16A with a few bolt ons. My old chipped PR3-J00 ecu would kick in vtec at any temp, but if its bad for it then i won't do that. I just don't like how Vtec on a p30 doesn't kick in till like 6k.

Right. Most would be pretty close. I have a bunch of stockish B16A maps that would provide a pretty decent basemap for something like that.

But definitely keep the vtec coolant check on.

So can not having the knock sensor on cause any damage? Also my check engine light comes on when im lugging it in a higher gear and like give it full throttle.

You should be just fine without a knock sensor :-)

I was thinking about going with phearable for the chip.

The main concern for the knock sensor is it lets the engine know what grade fuel your running. The higher the grade, the more the ecu can enhance ignition timing as to give the best efficiency over an engine without it. So if you running 87 octane on a 110*F day you could most certainly cause a devastating spark knock and ruin the engine. So if your going to run without a knock sensor you may want to always stick to high grade fuel to avoid that. I however run 87 octane in my 96' prelude vtec obd2 and I have a knock sensor, so it detects the low octane and dials back the power and fuel efficiency to be safe and extend the typical honda reliability. When the ecu has the knock sensor it allow the engine to run more efficient. Without it you may see some power gains easily just from that one thing alone but be careful about your fuel and the ambient temperature.

Does anyone know if the 96' prelude vtec is obd2a or obd2b? Will I need the distributor harness as well? Can you tell me exactly what I need to get for my 96' prelude vtec to do everything properly? This is my first time with ecu modding. I need to get the obd1 to obd2 harness for my uncertain decision on either a p28 with secondaries control, or a p72 with possible knock sensor functionality. Does anyone know if it's possible to retain knock sensor functionality on a p28 or p72? Is it possible to get secondary control on a p28?

THANKS

I've got a p30 map that i've tuned for my car that might work well on yours. Mine is a b16a with bolt ons too. I've adjusted my fuel maps though and taken quite a bit of fuel off from the stock map so it might run lean on your motor. You have a wideband to see where your afr is?

you should try and have to computers one for daily driver and one to play with it
I did that to my sol and i have stock p30 for daily and chipped p28 to play around

That isn't really necessary if your ecu is properly mapped.
Partial throttle efficiency on a chipped ecu can be as good or better then a stock ecu if the chipped ecu is properly mapped.
