Default going turbo

ok so my 97 prelude is going to be paid off soon. I am going to go turbo and
I think I have the idea and want to be sure that I have the check list correct as to what I need to have in order to go turbo.

So I need a turbo kit
tuned ecu ( what kind it the best for my car )
what about the oil for the turbo how does it work off the car?
manifold
intercooler
hondata 300
If i am missing any thing let me know
I am not looking for much more that 6 psi of boost

No, that should do it. Don't forget to connect the oil line to the turbo and leave the outlet port open so that the oil can vent to atmosphere from your turbo. Disconnect your ECU completely when you go turbo because you're ecu will give you a lot of flashing lights and that's always a pain to look at. You can go to about 20 psi on a T3/T4 Garrett turbo on your stock motor, H-series motors were built to handle around 20 psi of boost. Have fun with your build, and get back to us with any updates once you have your car running.

Whoa...Things must have changed since I was last on. 20?? really? I didn't think the rings liked anything more than 8, and that would be with a really good tune.

Yeah, its true. You can do 8 psi in idle, that's nothing. I've recently added an aftermarket intake made for n/a setup to my turbo car, so now I can go all the way to 32 psi. Wheeeee, that's fast. Read up man, there's a lot to learn about air.

do you think a car would run without an ECU too? venting the turbo's oil supply?

c'mon, he was kidding.

Default Re: going turbo

here's a list of what you should get if you REALLY want to go with a turbo setup without building the engine..(partially taken from my own mod list)

Good sized turbo (t3/t04e, 60-1, etc..)
Turbo oil feed/return lines
Log Style or Equal Length Turbo Manifold
38mm Wastegate
Half-Sized Dual-Core Radiator
Walboro 255lph Fuel Pump
Intercooler (whatever size u want)
Intercooler/Intake Aluminum piping
Custom Downpipe
Custom exhaust (High Flow Catalytic Converter, High Flow 12” Resonator, Muffler)
Blow-Off Valve
Boost Controller
Boost Gauge
Turbo Timer
3-Bar MAP Sensor
P06 ECU (for tuning with ECtune, or get a hondata S300 w/ a P28 ECU)
Fuel Injectors

There's way more that you can get if you decide to build the engine, but the list above is the bare basics of what you'd need

a log manifold on a stock h22 is asking for cracked rings even at 8lbs because they work off of pressure instead of flow and that backpressure will crack your rings in no time.

a log manifold on a built h22 won't have that problem but why get a log manifold with a built motor the rings won't crack but you will lose so much power.

an "equal length" manifold is not needed, just get something where all the collectors merge and you will be fine.

that same douche bag is someone that did all that you're describing and more. whereas you're here asking for help from strangers on how to do things the right way. you're way out of line, you dont know anything about car. otherwise why are you asking?

Are u flipping insane? I wouldn't run over 10psi on a stock internals. I've heard of people going 12 but I've never seen it.

My advise is to research and do even more research. You will pick up some good info on what you can do and not do. Here is my mod list for my turbo setup in my lude.

SFP Turbo Manifold
Borg Warner GM-5 Turbo
Custom Specialties Port and Polish Head
Tial 38mm Wastegate
HKS BOV
T1 Race Development Custom IC Piping
T1 Race Development Custom 3” Downpipe
T1 Race Development Custom Dumptube
Port & Polished Head
Type S Pistons
Jun Valve Springs
RC 550 Injectors
NGK Spark Plugs
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
Greddy Evo 2 Exhaust
ACT Stage 2 Clutch Kit
Full Size Koyo Radiator with 2 slim fans.
Tuned on Neptune

you could always get one of these jimmyjankers!

the main point everyone is trying to get at is that you need to read the turbo FAQ section, and then some. Turbo is not a bolt on mod, there are alot of different little peices and customization that goes into each motor.

i like, T1R makes great stuff. i have a 70mm exhaust from them on my new project. i don't know how they did it, but they made the exhaust quiet and still one of the best flowing ones on the market for the s2k. the competitors are also crazy JDM expensive. (J's and Amuse)

to the OP, you really do need to do more research. The reason someone threw out ridiculous suggestions to you is to show how ignorant you are to this matter. If you truly understood how a turbo setup works, you would understand what realistic goals are according to your goals, your budget, and your driving style. as always there will be pros and cons for each and every part. you decide what suits your wants/desires and tailor it accordingly, but in order to do so you want a proper understanding.

the question comes down to how much you want to spend vs. how fast you want to go. There's an old import tuning saying that rings true and it goes:
There's fast, cheap, or reliable in modding, you can only usually pick 2.
If you want fast and cheap, it won't be reliable
if you want fast and reliable, it won't be cheap
if it's cheap and reliable, it won't be fast.

Think about that
