Default Can I Turbo An All Motor Built Poor Man's R?

Ok I just got an 94 EG hatch with a poor mans R. I dont like the idea of All Motor so I was wondering if I could boost that engine and maybe stay on low boost since the CR is so high. It has a semi built Bottom End. JE 12:1 Pistons with stock GSR rods. Has ARP rod bolts. B16A head, SKunk2 cam gears, Greddy timing belt, B16 transmission,Exedy clutch, DC header. Just wondering with that high of a compression ratio could I even boost at all?

you can boost it but it wont be too reliable. nowadays its all in the tune though so find a good tuner and see what they recommend. id try and get the compression down to 10:1 or lower and get some forged rods and you can turn the boost up.

By getting the CR down id have to change out the higher compression pistons right? Yea the tune is going to be professionally done.

yessir. you can probably get away with stock pistons if all you wanted was ~300whp.

With that power there's no need for headgasket or piston change. Tune, tune, tune, and don't get the cheap **** either.

So Shodan you think I could boost this motor like it is now? I was told if I was going to boost it at thicker head gasket would be needed.

The higher compression will only limit your power creation on a certain grade fuel. You'll have to run a higher octane to combat detonation, but other than that, you should be ok.

As long as the motor is in good condition from the factory (leakdown/ compression tests, etc) you're fine. Just Tune Tune Tune.
