Default breaking axles.

Have a 90 ef 4dr with a B16 making 370hp and 291tq. Transmission is a y1 with a lsd, clutch is a spec stage 5, running 22/8/15 M/T slicks. Problem is that we are beaking axles left and right, we have already been through five axles the past three times to the track. On the open diff transmission and the stage 2 ACT clutch we did not break a single axle and were going 12.1 in the 1/4 mile. We are loading the suspension with the handbrake, tried different rpm launches. I don't want to by 800.00 dollar axles when I see people running lower numbers with stock axles, but my just have to. Any help would be GREAT.

try going to a 24.5" tall tire, i found that my buddies eg b16 turbo kept on breaking shafts with 22" slicks, where as my integra DA on 24.5" slicks didnt break a single shaft all season. We both run the same make replacement shafts and both preload our suspensions. Just a thought.

Just make sure that your not dumping the clutch and you are in fact engaging the clutch b4 you launch.

And were making about the same power that you are with open diff trannys, he's gone 11.5 and ive gone 11.6

Is the car lowered? You'll want to keep the axles as neutral and level as possible.

Is the engine and tranny moving much ?

The idea with the taller slick with low air pressure is the sidewall helps to cushion the shock.

Car is at stock height, skunk2 drag coilovers, ETD traction bars, full poly suspension bushings. best 60 foot was a 1.8. I have a set of 24.5 slicks but have not tried them, we have to give them a try this weekend and see. Thanks for the input.

Default Axles

There is a guy here selling DSS 5.9 axles rated 1000hp. Buy those and be done with it. I would also preload clutch on launch to keep all tight.

Before you buy the 5.9's make sure they will fit your hubs ? as well as your chassis.

Also check to make sure those 5.9's had the correct heat treatment. There was an issue...

What motor mounts do you have in your EF.... Older mount kits had issues breaking axles.

Does your motor move?

call island motorsports@(714)522-7458 get some good axles and if you need mounts call innovative mounts@(714)524-5246 even if the mounts are bad if you have good axles they should not brake

made 3 passes back to back launching at 4 to 4500 due to ebrake not holding...held fine while preloading...horrible 60' 2.4 ran 8.7 at 92mph...last launch of the night still couldnt anti lag so i tried launching higher around 7000 while preloading just changed the bottle due to low bottle press...and wamo bamo...end result broken axle done for the night...

i would make sure the back mount is solid as possible.. (firewall mount) if that's a bit of loose it'll tear up axles very quickly...

as long as you buy axles that are comeing from over seas they will always break right at the hub heat treat is wrong and the metal is no good alot of axle supplies buy the outter cv joint from over seas slap on a bar (or buy the whole unit over seas) and call it a day buy USA and have a good long day at the track

Going to the track on Saturday with Pep Boys axles and 24.5x9's, should be interesting I plan on pre-loading the hell out of it and not dumping the clutch. I have a solid rear mount and solid billet torque mounts so hopefully they help some.

We have a CRX with stock axle that has been low 1.6's @ 9.7 @ 153 without breaking any in over 50 passes. I would try lowering the car about an 1" - 1 1/2" and slip the clutch out of the hole.

I had a major problem breaking axles until I figured out that my driver (me) was mashing on the clutch pedal just a bit as the tree would come down, just enough to lose preload. You have to make a conscious effort to do everything right on every pass.
As for the imported axles (autozone) they suck, I have had good luck with Advance Auto axles.
