Default 1999 Honda Civic check engine light blinking!

I started it this morning getting off work and the check engine light started blinking. It has come on once before and just stayed on solid because of the o2 sensor needing to be replaced. Now it comes on and blinks off and on. It also has trouble picking up speed and feels like front end is jumping?

Feels like i have lost compression is hard to pick up and go. The car is slugish and feels like it has no power and can barely go. There is also a clicking sound that clicks down by the fuse box on the driver side.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I always thought if your light is blinking then don't drive car it could damage it. Steady light ok because usually emissions fault.

Are blinking CEL is a misfire code, Id get it scanned By an OBDII reader.

Could be clogged injector
Plugs
Wires.

autozone will do it for free. However, the drive there might be a bad idea considering the bogging and loss of compression you think you have. What I would do first is pull the plugs and look for one that is much worse than the others (black, white, broken diode) and also smell them. See if they smell of gas. Also check for any plugs that may have popped off (ie the one on your intake).

I did what u guys said and had AutoZone run a check engine light test, and the car threw 2 codes.

P1399
P0135

The second one is said to be an o2 sensor, but what is the second one?

Any help?..thanks

blinking CEL is catalyst related...if you drive the vehicle, you are risking damaging the cat conv, which could get really expensive....get it to a repair shop asap

dude why dont you search for the codes? gheez.

if you type p1399 in the search function, you will see that it says something about a misfire.

You do have a misfire. Blinking light does indicate possible damage to the cat. Start by replacing the cap, wires, plugs, and rotor(About the cheapest thing you can do at this point). While you have the plugs out, compression test it to see what your number are. Are the consistant? No? You have big issues. Yes? The you need to perform a leak-down test. Let us know what happens.

I know this post is old but i am having similar problems, my cel isnt a constant blinking it only occurs if im doing something as going up a hill and whatever gear im in, the car jumps for a bit and then the cel blinks but goes away ... also it does the same jumping but same as uphill it all depends on what gear im in the elevation and speed and everything .... im just wondering if anyone has any oppions about what could possibly be wrong ... i am doing a mini me swap and ontop of the mini me i was going to do plugs, wires, cap and rotor, water pump, fuel filter, and retime, and if one of those didnt work wasnt sure really what to do.
I also find that the jumping only occurs when the car is warmed up

Pull the codes the CEL is throwing for starters.

I will be checking the codes when i find my reader.
But the thing i dont understand is will the reader even pick up anything since i dont have a cel light, my cel light will only blink if the car jumps for a certain amount of time.

How should I know what your reader will pick up? Don't put the cart before the horse. Pull the codes. The next time it starts blinking, pull to the side of the road, keep the car running and pull them.

Do the EGs have a "Maintenance Required" light like the EKs? And what does it mean when that particular light is illuminated?

how did you manage to fix this problem because a friend of mine have the same problem when we changed the ecu from obd1 or obd2?? msg me.

when car is completely stop the cel would flash and when we drove off the cel would be steady.

code 41 was the only code that i could pull off which was the o2 sensor

ive got a similar problem, ive got a blinking cel,at idle but as soon as you hit the gas it stops, then if you let it idle it will start blinking again, i just replaced the distributor with a low mileage one from a junkyard, new spark plugs also, i checked the timing and its good and the fuel filter seems to be ok.

just bought this car and its currently not legal, not inspected, and no plates so i cant simply just drive it to advance auto. but i pulled the codes with the service plug and im just getting a code 1 for the o2 sensor. this thing has no power, and hesitates when you hit the throttle and it sounds like a subaru.

any help would be greatly appreciated

I also don't have a cat either so that's probably why

Please ask a moderator to move your thread from the Introduction forum to this forum rather than continually bumping other threads.

With that said, chase out the reason that your distributor rotor fails to spin when you crank the engine. I have already given you suggestions on how to pinpoint the problem.
