Default boost problems...

hey i just bought an EG hatch, took some friends along to check it out and everything seemed really good, car is still great, just had a question, b16 engine swap from a 95 del sol with a t3t4 turbo. ss auto crome exaust manifold (dont make jokes, its what i have now, it will be changed when funds come) that has about a 2 inch crack accross the front welds. right now it runs just fine, but the turbo doesnt spool up till nearly 7000rpm. it gets up to 7 psi on the boost gauge (not sure but we think its working properly..) but not until 6 or 7000, any idea why?

if my boost gauge is off, how can i tell?

should the crack really make that much of a difference? (its not gaping open, very thin crack but you can feel exaust leak if you put your hand up near it...)

It is not creating boost because all the exhaust air is not getting to the turbo. I'd say your problem is the cracked manifold. A friend of mine had a similar problem with not building boost and it was because of a small leak where the turbo bolts to the manifold (1 bolt was loose).

That manifold isn't really worth having it welded. You're better off buying a replacement.

The turbo is not a ching-chang ebay turbo is it? That could be an issue too.
