I have a b18b1 and I need to retard my timing -4*. Stock timing is 16*. This is where I get confused. I believe I will have to retard it to 12*. Is this correct?
From the website CRS and looking at the diagram the crank pulley has one mark that is 0* then 3 marks grouped together 14*16* 18*.
How do I know where the 12* mark is?

ok if 12* is advancing it then what would i need to set it at. I know i need to retard it 4* from stock timing.

Why?
20 degrees BTDC would be 4 degrees retarded from stock.

back to what you said. I thought - is retard and + is advancing. so from 16* i would have to -4 which would make it 12*

Yeah, you're right. I had it backwards.
You'll need an advance timing light. I hope you don't expect great drivability or reliability with this "tuning" method.
