Default ignition timing?

The specs for stock timing on my car is 12* +/- 2degrees btdc. I ran a timing light and it read 10degrees, so I am still w/in parameters of stock timing. I want to retard the timing a degree or two, now the 12degrees stock timing is retarded from top dead center right? I just want to make sure I retard it and not advance it. EX: 14* would be 2degrees retarded, right?

If you are currently at 12 degrees BTDC, retarding 2 degrees would put you at 10, and advancing 2 degrees would put you at 14.
