Default Anyone here running an AEM EMS yet?

Hey guys. I just installed my EMS, 450cc DSM injectors and a new FPR last weekend.

I'm using a map from a JRSC'd B16A with about the smae mods as me. The MAP worked great with just few tweaks to the fuel settings just to be safe. The car runs fine under boost and gets zero knock but it is a little rich. I was able to get it drivable just off of datalogging the stock sensors.

The problem I'm having is cold starting the motor and keeping a steady idle. I'm pretty sure that the idle problem is caused by me having the fuel pressure to high (46psi at idle) but I wanted to make sure I didn't blow it up because I didn't have a wideband. I'm going on the dyno in two weeks to tune it for power but in the meantime I want to work on the idle/start problem.

Is anyone here running one and having success with it? If so, can I look at your map to see what the differences are between your idle and start controls and mine? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I'r excited about it. In fact this is the first time I've been excited about my car in a few months. I was starting to get frustrated with the constant tuning issues. I'd change a few things get it running good, and then a couple weeks later it would seem to be back where I started. Reset the ECU, retune it, runs good for a few weeks, ad infinitum....

Now I've got the car running and it's faster than it's ever been even running pig rich like it is. No more flat spot from 7000 on up anymore it just keeps pulling linearly.

It's a complex system but if you have a clue about what you're doing and are carefull, it's not as bad as I've heard it made out to be. There's pleny of work still left to do, but with only three hours invested so far (that's for everything too, injector rewire, fpr install....) and I have a driveable car, I think that's doing pretty good for a standalone.

I've been doing research and I vaguely remember you saying something along the lines of having datalogging issues. If I remember correctly, datalogging using a laptop had no issues but datalogging onto the ECU itself was causing problems. Was there ever a fix for this?

I don't think it ws me that said that because this is the first time I've had the ECU in the car. I have heard the same thing, but the new software's release notes claims to have fixed it. It worked fine for me, you have to manually set up all the logging but that's just click File ---> Add ----> Pick your sensor. I haven't figured out the math channels yet, in fact I'm not even sure what you would use that for. I'm just planning on shooting for 12.2:1 AF ratio and as much timing as possible without knock. I don't think I'll need to run tricky equations on various sensor readings to do that.

Maybe if you're good with math you can have it estimate hp by using load and speed sensor readings or something like that with it...

Well I dont plan to touch it myself, Im letting a tuner shop do the work. Its costly, but Im way more comfortable letting a AEM certified tuner handle it on a dyno then me fussing with it in my drive way. And yes I have not heard a bad thing about the AEM unit yet so thats why Im so excited to get it up and running.

local guy has it on his itr and drag 3 setup running 6psi, and we spend some time playing with it this past sunday...

it was pretty cool for sure...

I'd say play with the tps voltage settings too, as we had to do this to get a steady idle... We also had to lean out the stock b16 w/ boost maps for idle so it wouldn't kill the car (running too rich).

ILR or ILOVERACING has been playing with it a bunch... try sending him an IM...

I want to do it myself, I figure I'll have to be changing things quite a bit and I would be better off in the long run if I learned how to use it. Plus it's kind of fun if you're into that sort of thing.

I may go sensor crazy in the future too. I want to run a EGT probe right into the ECU and set it to add fuel if EGTs get too high. I want a wideband so I can tune on the street/strip, Porsche makes one for $300 that should work great for that. When the traction control update comes out, I'm looking to get that working too. From what I unserstand you may need some extra/different wheel speed sensors for that.

Thanks I'll give that a shot.

try http://www.aempower.com
there is a BBS for EMS users. A lot of help from AEM engineers and ppl with experience. I've been on the board for the past couple days, just to educate myself upon arrival of my AEM unit.

I paid $1300 for mine from JDMClub.com (MarkAccord on this board).

They're not cheap but they are sweet.

Try lowering your TPS voltage. On my base map it was at 4.40...for my car to idle it needs to be at 0.04. A HUGE difference. Also make sure Early Sinc is turned ON.
