Default weird problem

ok so i swapped a 96 vtec head on my 00 y8 block

when i try to start it, the revs are real high, prolly like 3000 and loud.

i did a compression check and it says 180 180 180 150

so that means bad headgasket? because i just changed it when i installed the head

could it be i messed up with some hoses?

and also i gain MPH, maybe its because my front left tire is off and the car is on jacks?

high rpm doesnt mean your headgasket is toast. overheating, disappearing coolant, and/or a oil pan full of choco milkshake would tell you that. sounds like you have a massive vaccum leak. did you use a new intake manifold gasket and clean off the mating surfaces. check all your vaccum lines and ports. and make sure your tb isnt somehow being pulled partially open

could it be i didnt get one of the nuts on? in the center of the intake manifold there is one underneath that i couldnt get it on.

i used gasket spray on the old intake manifold so that should work right?

so would a vacuum leak cause the compression to be 180 180 180 150?

are the valves shutting all the way or are the valves on the 150 cyl. to tight. that can cause a bad compression test. as far as the high idle check to make sure no intake gasket leaks or that the iacv is clean and working right.

you could take your intake off entirely and you would still have the same compression results.

When you say you used gasket sealer, does that mean you still had the original gasket on there and it was in salvageable shape so you simply sprayed some sealent on that? or that you had no gasket oncesoever and just used the spray? if so i'd definately be willing to bet thats where you're getting your leak from. even if you sprayed down a used old gasket though, the results are sketchy at best. and like the other guy said you may also be leaking through your iacv. if the idle is steady at around 3000rpm though and not surging up and down, then that would rule out the iacv.

i dont know if the valves are too tight i got the head from a person on this site.

the iacv is good. i cleaned it out im just stuck now. idk what to do...

prolly redrain my coolant, clean the intake mani mating surfaces off, clean the intake mani gasket

crap, what would happen if i used the D16y7 intake gasket? i think i mgiht have accidently done that

im going to go drain the coolant and remove the intake mani and check...ill be back in 20

it was a brand new felpro headgasket and i sprayed the copper spray onto it

i also sprayed that stuff on a reused intake mani gaskety too

AND WHY NO NEW INTAKE GASKET. the old gasket has been squeezed and now re-tightened that might be the vacuum leak.

replacing the intake gasket is cheap insurance when re-installing it

1) new gasket
2) adjust valves to spec
3) check the trottle body and clean it
4) re-set the ecu ( remove battery cables for a few minutes and re-connect)
5) let the car idle for 15 min don't touch throttle so the ecu will re-lear

hope you get it fixed let us know

hold up... so you've got a y8 block, a y8 head, and a y7 intake manifold?
