I just purchased my 98' HX 15 months ago for $5200 with 82,000 miles (in average condition). At the time the Edmunds/Blue Book for a private party was about $5600 (from memory).

I'm ready to sell this car because its my 2nd car. It's now got 106,000 miles on it. The Edmunds site now says it should sell for about $2700. That seems like a huge drop in a short time.

I've seen on various Craigslist a 98' HX (all with higher mileage than mine) being advertised from $3900-$4900.

Why such a huge drop in Edmunds price? And are the people offering it at the $3900-$4900 price out of their mind or is that a fair market price right now and Edmunds is way off base?

Also, the HX is one of the highest MPG cars available that isn't hybrid and with gas the way it is I think the HX would be a coveted car right now.

those people selling those civics are probably doing what anyone else selling a car with high mpg.. theyre marketing the fuel economy.. not everyone checks blue book before they buy and the people with economical cars are cashing in by selling their car for rediculous prices because they know people will pay more if they think itll save more gas... you know what? i think im gonna sell my civic n buy 2 more

I bought my hx for 4200 three years ago with 113 on the clock, thats when gas was 2 bucks it should retain its value at 4 with only 100k on it, just advertise the gas mileage thats all

I've always figured - CiViCs only lose about $800/yr.

Pretty amazing, when you think about it...

$800/yr depreciation for 15 months would equal $1000.

$5200 - $1000 = $4200

'98 HXs go for $3900-$4900 in your area (and mine too) sooo... $4200 would be a reasonable price, no?

You shouldn't have any problem selling it for $4200 IMHO!
