intermittent no crank no start, solenoid always clicks
Rebuilt my trans after blwoing it apart at the dragstrip, everything went smoothly.
Trans shifts great and runs fine.
But, starter intermittently will not crank over.
the starter solenoid is fine it clicks everytime, but only ocasionlly 1 out of ten trys does it turn the motor over and start.
I checked all the grounds/power, and even removed any rust that could have caused resistance.
tightened battery leads and applied some dielectric grease.
what could cause this problem after swapping tranny/ moreso replacing a known good starter?
ive searched and I know the usual no start causes but for it to be intermittent really has me stumped.
if anyone has any idea please let me know, thanks

its either your starter or your battery isn't pumpping out enough juice to kick your starter. I agree with HONDA up there.. I've had a starter click on me and i would try about 10+times than it'll crank right up. you can actually take that starter apart and clean it out make sure the inside is clean and getting good contact with the ground.
yea took it all apart, cleaned all the contacts and it should be set to go.
there is some noticeable wear but nothing that would cause it to fail.
thanks guys, and it doesnt seem like a battery issue being it cranks strong when it does.

JUST had this problem.
Sometimes i would walk out to the car and it would fire up firtst try, other times it took 3 turns of the key, sother times still it took 15-20 turns of the key.
As soon as the weekend hit and i had a bit of time off work I changed my starter and it has been 100% ever since.
I am 115% sure it is your starter.
BTW. Searching H-T made me sure it was the starter that was my problem, and is why I replaced it.

removed and cleaned contacts with some scotchbrite, and cleaned out all the loose copper particles and she fired right up.
5/5 trys she started.
